Re: (scorp508)
ok.. but I can't get the nut off! :(
Will heat break up the threadlocker? Can I spray something around the nut to dissolve the threadlocker?

Re: (Bluewasp)
wire wheel in a drill, get as much as you can, then a impact gun like a shockwave or thundergun should break it loose. either that or break your bolt, red is strong stuff.

Yeah. I posted the same question in the C5 tech section and someone suggested heat. I'll give that a try.
I wasn't the one that used red on the nut. Car came that way.
thanks

I work in the fastener business, and I can look at the tables on monday if anyone so desires.

If I'm remembering my tables correctly, the red should require a force of ~ 250 - 300 ft. lbs to break.

Locktite red? That stuff should be a total PITA to get off, unless used incorrectly. One of the applications for Red Loctite threadlocker is making new threads in stripped bolt holes (not to be used on heads, but anywhere else should be fine). If I'm remembering my tables correctly, the red should require a force of ~ 250 - 300 ft. lbs to break.

Re: (VQT88Vette)
I always remembered the red as being the most "gentle" of the Locktite thread lockers.
The exception, as with ANY thread locker, is when you remove then replace a nut without cleaninng the old thread locker off.
Then it viirtualy welds itself together :smash:

Re: (Phil-tha-Rush)
Or maybe I wont' bring the sheet home. Boss was being a jerk today, didn't even try to ask. I did however go over the specs.
Red Loctite brand threadlocker that we sell is "professional grade" whatever the hell that means, lol. Anyway, breaking force is 100-135 ft.Lbs. Sorry I must have been smoking crack. The Red can also be used to make new threads to replace stripped ones, only if it is a non-pressurized part. No head bolt repairs, or exhaust studs. Also, removal recommendations are to heat to 450*F for 30 secs. or until it begins to flow, then quickly seperate the surfaces. If you let it set again, it's not gauranteed to release a second time.
We sell red, blue, green, white, black and purple loctite, each one has a unique application. I have no idea what they all are yet, but purple can be used on pressure fittings in excess of 4k Psi
The business I started working for recently makes industrial gasketing, hydraulic hoses(stainless too! woot), air hoses, and many other things that I haven't a clue about yet.
Sorry about the misinformation, can you forgive me? :nopity

Loctite makes a gazillion different adhesives but those are the ones you might find on a car.
