Default What performance chip should I buy?

I have a 92 LT1 that is basically stock except for an exhaust sytem. I would like to buy a new performance chip for the vehicle to get a few more hp but I dont know what to buy. I eventually want to put a cold air induction kit, MAF and larger throttle body on as well. Does anyone have any recommendations for the chip that will work well here in Denver where the aire is a little thinner?

Thanks. Milehighvetter

I use a hypertech thermomaster but kept the 180 thermostat., but not for long once I buy my SC, if those the last of your mods hypertech will do, keep in mind there are those who say the computer will relearn and undo any hypertech changes, I tend to disagree when wide open throttle comes into play. Save your money for other mods. The chip just isn't worth it right now. You would gain more by installing better gears, 211 cam or even shorty headers woud be better money spent. But, most who have dealt with Ed Wright at Fastchip swear by him.
I'm in the slow process of learing to do my own.

Chips really dont do much for HP on a stock engine. All they can really do is advance your timing. The most gain you would get from a chip on a stock engine is just a couple HP, not worth the $200+ it would cost.

The bigger TB is no real help on a 350, you can run a search on this topic, youll see how many times it comes up. We've found that it doesnt give you any HP on the LT1, and even cost some people a couple HP.

The Cold air kit will help, if you actually get a cold air kit. The 3-cone filter SLP markets as a CAI is not really a cold air induction, it draws air from the same place as the stock filter housing. I think its TPiS that makes one for the slanted radiator thats a tru CAI, but only buy a CAI kit that forces you to cut the radiator shroud, otherwise its BS.

Mods like exhaust, intake and head porting, and cam changes are the only mods that will add real HP numbers to your engine. And then you can get the Ed Wright chip from fastchip.com, until you wish to do this stuff, save your money.

I would do more mods before I would purchase a chip. You will notice a lot more with a programmer or chip after the mods.I know I did.I did a lot of mods then programed my computer with a hypertech programmer and it made a big difference. You can do a lot more with a programmer than a chip.

I have an ADS chip I bought off eBay for $75. BIG difference on a slightly modified motor.

In a relatively stock car, I don't think you'll see any gains from a performance chip. I had a Jet stage 2 chip in my mostly stock '91 and it slowed me down in the 1/4. Needless to say I'm running the stock chip again now until I do some more aggressive mods.

Oh, I should have mentioned Roller Rockers w/new springs would be better money spent too. If you have an auto then get a stall converter. No extra horses here, but better performance.
