How to remove oil dipstick tube from block
I am installing TPIS headers on my 85 :D and need to remove the oil dipstick tube from the block. How do you get it out of the block? It there a hidden bolt or is it just pressed in? Help!!!

There was probably a bolt attaching it to the manifold, after that's removed it just slips in the block. It is a tight fit though so you'll have to pull pretty hard.

Mine snapped off inside the block right at the base.....had to drop the pan and pop it out with a punch. You might want to soak it with some P'Blaster or WD-40

It's pressed into the block and a sealant is used to seal it.
Mine also broke off at the block and requied removal from underneith.
Good luck.

Here's how I got mine out.
-Disconnect the tube from the header bolt.
-Slap on a set of vice grips on the tube just below the bracket for the header bolt
-from underneath the car, hold a long screw driver up against the vise grips and bang upwards with a hammer.
You'll need a new one afterwars however :yesnod:

Thanks for all the info. With my luck if I try to remove it it will crack off in the block. Having removed the starter, oil cooler tube & oil pan once before I decided to take the Hooker 2149 approach. I cut the section out of the flange between #6 and #8. Now I can install and remove the headers without touching the dipstick tube. :D It did take me a while to actually turn on the saw and cut into the shinny new metal. :cry
