Proper oil for 91 L98
I recently purchased this Vette and don't have the owner's manual with the specs. What is the correct spec for motor oil in my car? Manual Transmission fluid spec?
Thanks.
The oil was already changed recently, however, the "CHANGE OIL" light is on. I'm wondering if it has something to do with a seal on the tranny. I know that CHANGE OIL light will tend to come on with tranny issues (someone here on the forum had their change oil light come on and then found out there was a small hole in the torque converter caused by road debris).

The CHANGE OIL light is not connected to anything that can sence any malfunctions in your year car. It is mearly a reminder to change oil using a simple calculaation of miles driven/RPMS/oil temp. The calculator must be reset each time you change oil for this reminder to be accurate.
IMHO forget the CHANGE OIL reminder (reset it when necessary using the directions in your newly purchased repair or owners manual). Change your oil every 3-5K miles with a quality 10w - 30 synthic oil. and have fun.

The spec for engine oil is 10W-30. The 91s didn't come with synthetic but could benefit from using it. Your 91 will have an oil cooler built in that was removed when the LT1s were produced. 92 and above were filled at the factory with Mobil 1 for its heat dispersal properties (for one) due to the lack of the oil cooler.
Can't help on the tranny oil specs as I have an auto.
To reset the oil change light:1. Turn the key to the "ON" position, but don't start the engine.
2. Press the ENG MET button on the Trip Monitor and release it. Then, within five seconds, press and release the ENG MET button again.
3. Within five seconds, of Step 2, press and hold the RANGE button on the Trip Monitor. The CHANGE OIL light will flash.
4. Hold the RANGE button until the CHANGE OIL light stops flashing and goes out. When the light goes out, the Engine Oil Life Monitor is reset. This should take about ten seconds. If it doesn't reset, turn the ignition "OFF" and repeat the procedure.
Sorry, haven't heard of the oil change light being associated with trans problems.

I would change over to Mobil 1 5w or 10w30, its just an all-around better oil.
