Default Braided Brake Lines

Any real advantages or disadvantages to installing the braided brake lines? There are at least 3 makers, any one of them better than the other? thanks

I put a set of Russell's and a set of Performance Friction Z Rated pads on my '95 about five years ago. It made a considerable improvement in stopping with a harder pedal. If you do it, I'd recommend flushing the entire system as it will need bleeding anyhow. Fill it with Ford Motorsports or comparable fluid. Good Luck!

I have the same set-up. I love how it stops, But the pads do dust a lot. The Stainless lines really seem to stop the "mushiness" of the pedal...

It's sacrilege, I know, but that fluid works very well for open track days.

I thought the Ford fluid was among the best high performance street fluids (ie: one that isn't really hydroscopic) but for the best track fluid you went with something like castrol SRF or AP600.

I've read some guys saying braided lines don't make that much difference but personally I feel differently.

I'm running Goodridge stainless lines with more aggressive pads and AP600 fluid and it has dramatically changed my pedal feel. The car pulls up much better but that is mainly a factor of the new pads.

I don't think I could ever go back to rubber lines on the Vette after experiencing the way my brakes feel now. They look nicer too.

edit: the main disadvantage would have to be cost.

In the catalogs I often see braided lines a little cheaper than rubber ones. Don't recall the brands. What's up with that???

I just replaced the rubber lines with a Goodridge braided stainless set. The pedal is indeed firmer, but it's hard to determine if the new lines are solely responsible, since I thoroughly flushed the fluid.

I asked (on the forum) which brand people prefered - Goodridge and Russell seemed to be the top choices.

Oh well, it goes to show I didn't even check what replacemnt rubber brake lines cost doesn't it? :bb Having said that I can't work out WHY rubber lines would be more expensive than stainless braid...

Strange indeed. I would like a set since my are pretty old and don't like the feel of the pedal. Was thinking that I was seeing expensive rubber one's or cheap butt braided one's. Maybe the braided one's I've seen are not stainless, I will have to recheck.

Just checked the VBP catalog, Stainless braided = $129.95 a set, rubber = 29.95 each.
