Default Timken Wheel Bearings - any good?

The local Auto Zone sells Timken wheel bearings for the Vette. No Pep Boys nearby, so I can't take advantage of the lifetime warranty. Wondering about the Timkens ($150).

Timken is a reputable bearing manufacturer. They should work out fine.

I purchased the front right wheel bearing hub assembly for my 92 at Autozone (part number 513085) for $150.99. It came in a Timken box but is stamped “NDH” which is the OEM bearing (the same used at the plant.)

Timken Bearings are the gold standard for bearings. A lot of bearings you get at auto part stores are from China. I have a friend that works at Federal Mogal, and he told me that a few years ago, they sold all of their bearing making machines to China. I don’t have anything against the Asian country, but any bearings made there are made with stone age machines. And Timken is an American Company. :flag

Bought mine from the same source, but they didn't have an NDH stamp nor did they look like the factory units. Still seemed to be high quality though. I would buy them again.

Timken Bearings are the gold standard for bearings.
Yes! But for tapered roller bearings. Unless something has changed (very possible) and Timken has bought out another company, Timken, historically, has only made tapered roller bearings. Anything else is likely a Timken purchased "rebox". Anything they would put their name on "should" be top quality. NDH makes ball bearings. If you pull your wheel bearing apart, you will see that it is what I call a "bicycle" bearing. It is similar to the front wheel bearings on a 1955 Chevy, or Schwinn. I have tried to find, true tappered roller bearings, that could fit modified stock housings, but was unsuccessful. To my untrained, non-engineer, eye, that anular contact ball bearing is a poor substitute for a true "Timken" bearing for a Corvette wheel bearing. Good luck, and...
