Easy to do but it is a hassle compared to most cars.

When I first got the car, I dreaded knowing the fact that I'd have to change the battery! But it wasn't too bad after all.

Let me know if the lower rear hole on your "gills" is actually a hole, or notch that goes all the way to the edge.

As for batteries... You'll have to decide between dry cell and the old fashoned ones. Dry Cell is ~$120 for Exide or Optima (maybe less at Costco). I've heard Interstate makes a good battery too.

I bought the Diehard gold. It's the same as the other Diehards, but you pay more for a better warranty (3 year full replacement, and prorated refund after that). The battery WILL need to be replaced in 5-8 years anyways, so why not get one with a 80 month warranty?

one word of warning.

Be careful not to OVERTIGHTEN the screws when reinstalling.

Ive had my car for 5 years and it still peeves me that the previous owner/dealer over tightened one of the screws and broke the fiberglass at that point.

It not noticeable from the outside, but bothers me every time I open the hood :mad

You people must have the ECM-above-the-battery model/years...

In the '86, I just undo 3 speed-control screws; 6 - 13mm-head bolts on the strut, one battery clamp bolt, and pull it out...Less than 5 minutes...

I had to put in a DieHard Silver - my Sears no longer lists a Gold for the Corvette...In fact, the 635CCA DieHard is the only one listed and stocked...(It replaced a 700CCA Silver I bought new 5 years ago when I bought the car)...
