Good to know. I wasn't sure and a friend of mine thought they were aluminum and was curious. I guess the more appropriate questions would be, were LT-1 blocks made in aluminum? And now I know the answer.

You'll probably want to do a search on LT1 engine wieght, but the LT motors are the heaviest (at >600 lbs) of the GM Al headed motors. Yes L98's do weigh less.

The LS1's are aluminum block and aluminum heads (four-bolt aluminum block with cross-bolt mains) :yesnod:

Most aluminum smallblock blocks weigh in the neighborhood of 90-100 lbs. (with nothing in them)
The LT1 weighs 22lbs more than an L-98, due to the cast iron exhaust manifolds.
