Can you swap a 4L60E in place of a 700R4?
I'm thinking of future changes, and am wondering if you can swap a newer 4L60E in place of my 700R4 if it ever goes? I knwo you can program those transmissions for gear changes and stuff electronically.

This is just my opinion, but its not worth it to do the swap. In the GM performance parts catalog they offer a computer to retrofit a 4L60e into older cars. I never priced it, but I was told it is very expensive. I agree that the E version is a better transmission, it shifts more accurately then the govenor controlled version, but the gear ratios are the same. If you do decide to swap it, keep us informed on how it goes.

Yep it can be done. The stand alone controllers are around in the $800 range. I guess it's up to the individual to decide if it's visible or not. Let us know if you do it.... :cheers:

No, I've never done it...
But you'd need a Vette 4L60E trans with the Torque-beam mount; the Vette ECU; probably a newer Vette wiring harness with the extra sensor connections; the sensors;...That would be enough to discourage me... :yesnod:
