Default alarm

I have a remote start on my 86 that came with the after market remote. My question is sence the key is not required to start the car how does it overide the vats? The resone is my car has had intermiten starting problems so i was woundering how can it be the vats if no key is required :confused:

I'm just speculating here, but I suspect there is a resistor equal to your key pellet installed under the driver's side dash in connector C281. This tells the VATS Module that the correct key is always in, even if there is no key at all. It could be one of the expensive VATS Bypasses that are sold, but this is just the resistor in a fancy connector. The other possibility is the Start Enable Relay has been grounded and the VATS as been disabled in the PROM, but I doubt this is the case.
