Default What's the optimal fluid level for a 4L60E trans?

The dipstick cross hatch range is stamped "190 F", and with my digital auto trans temp gauge on the speedo reading 190 the fluid level shows smack in the middle of the cross hatch range when proper fluid check procedure is adhered to.

Is this the best level of fluid or does the 4L60E like it at either the top boundary or bottom boundary of the range? I've heard this tranny is very finicky about fluid level. New torque converter, so want to make sure the fluid level is optimal. :yesnod: Book calls for 4.5 qts so that should be what they put in it I would assume.

<edit> this is probably an ignorant question.
