Default dart iron eagle 180's.....and ngk tr55 question please advise me

i was looking at the dart iron eagle 180's for my 85 tpi and was wondering if the straight plug or angle plug is what i need ? I also plan to buy 1-5/8 long tubes.

my other question is i bought a set of ngk tr55 plugs and they are 3/4" reach. My origional plug in my 85 iron head motor are 1/2 reach ? Which is correct and if it's 1/2 " which plug do you recommend that's 1 heat range colder ?

any suggestions would be a big help.

Will these straight plug heads work, or will they just create headache's with the headers ?

I've got Iron Eagle 200s on my 85 with straight plugs. Changing plugs is a littlle frustrating with my Hooker long tubes, but not a killer job. Take me about 20 minutes with an assortment of 3/8 extensions and a ratchet.

I'm running Hooker 2149 headers, and the stock AC Plugs from the owner's manual. Sorry, I don't know the AC #

You will have to look up the Hookers at thier site to get the size, I don't know.

I concurr with NHVette. I have an '86 with Dart Iron Eagle 200's and Lingenfelter 1-5/8" pri headers. Sparkplug sockets have a hex on wrench end. I can actually get to all the using a sparkplug socket and a corresponding 3/4" wrench. Some of the sparkplug wires are a little close for comfort.

I know L98 plugs are angled differently that standard angled plugs so I don't know if L98 vette headers would have any issues with regular angled plug heads. Anybody done that? I'm curious myself.

Since you asked, I looked up the primary size: 1 5/8 with 2 1/2 collectors.

thank you both for your answers, i'm sort of learning away from the straight plugs, ( plug wires close for comfort, needind a wrench on spark plug socket....etc) I'm not lazy but i did pull all my plugs last night in 12 minutes with the socket and a rachet .

i'm also surprised we can only get 2 guys reply's when many people here have headers.

How about ski dwn-it and corkevette, do you guys use straight or angled plugs with your headers on your L-98's ?

thanks Mike

Most people replace their heads with aluminum AFR's with L98 angles. That's why we're not hearing much.

I wouldn't say the straight plugs are a real problem as far as sparkplug wire routing. It could be better but there are other V8's out there that have much worse routing. Heck, a stock LT1 has gnarlier routing that I'm using.

i agree. I found a set of Dart iron eagles for $550 with straight plug. I like AFR's just like everyone else, but at $1200 a set i'm going to pass.

I agree lt-1's are worse as i have a few friends with the camaro's too ( they love my vette hood). I appreciate your input very much and have made the guy an offer , thanks for your support.

That's pretty much why I'm running these heads. They came with the longblock I bought and I was too broke to spend more money on heads. They're a modern design and flow really well but I wish they were lighter.

We should start a little Dart Iron Eagle club. Maybe we could even get our own avatar!
