carb cleaner to clean my 94 C4 throttle body ok or bad idea?
i,ve been using carb cleaner to clean my throttle body cars for years now i,ve been told that you can,t use carb cleaner to clean my 94 C4 throttle body, is that true and if so how or what do i ues to clean my throttle body?

I don't know about a 1994, but on my '92 the boyz at CI-IV used brake parts cleaner to clean my throttle-body assembly to great effect. Base idle's much smoother and she's more responsive off the line, too! :thumbs:

The parts store should have a can of TB cleaner. Carb cleaner could damage the coating on the TB. :cheers:

I know you supposed to use Throttle Body cleaner but Carb cleaner seems to work better.

GM top engine cleaner works well too. You are removing the IAC when you clean it, right? Otherwise all that gunk ends up in there, doing more harm than good.

I scrubbed the throttle plates on my 95 with carb cleaner and a tooth brush. Cleaned up nicely and I haven't noticed any ill effects. The back side of those plates just gets BLACK.

gumout brand sucks!!! it does didily squat.
any other brand of carb / TB cleaner works ten folds better.
try another brand. that's what did it for me. nice clean shiny TB.

there is a company called castle they sell and market a wide variety of automotive produst from carb cleaners to glass cleaner and even spray lubes...at any rate they make a very good air intake system cleaner that will clean any carbon build up up and is safe for use on your tb and also in sensor friendly....i would diffenately steer clear of brake clean...break clean has solvents in it that will swell rubber pieces...and carb cleaner is not a great idea to be using on o2 sensors...stick with air intake cleaners foe fuel injected cars :cheers:
