The stock style TPI intake went 11.8 ΓΒ
the SuperRam went 11. ???
First a little update:
Last fall after installing a Vigilante 2600 rpm converter, my 383 stock style TPI ran a best of 11.8 @117 mph. Now, fast-forward to this summer. I installed an Accel SuperRam intake along with a SuperRam.
Sunday 11-30-03 I finally made a return trip to the track.
Couple of points to make:
Timing set to 3 degrees btdc (Diacom shows timing retard with any more timing than 2-3 degrees.)
Chip has not been re-tuned/adjusted at all for the SuperRam, so I will have to coin the popular phrase, without a tune".
I put 5 gallons of 100 octane unleaded race gas into a nearly empty gas tank.
I launched at 1200 rpms for all my runs.
Weather conditions were ~55 degrees (unseasonably mild,) dew point =31, Humidity =43%, Pressure 29.72 inches, DA=?
It was very windy, Steady crosswind of 21 mph with gusts up to 28-30 mph. (not sure how much this affects ET.)
This is my best pass last fall with the stock style long tube TPI (outside temp was 45 degrees & no wind.)
60' ... 1.568
330 ... 4.818
1/8 ... 7.597
MPH ... 90.92
1000 ... data not shown
1/4 ... 11.836
MPH ...117.26
Here is my best ET on Sunday 11-30-03
60' ... 1.590
330 ... 4.797
1/8 ... 7.483
MPH ... 92.19
1000 ... 9.774
1/4 ... 11.694
MPH ...117.75
I also had a couple of new best MPH runs, which were
119.60 & 119.50 MPH
Interestingly, these were on runs where I had wheel spin off the line, and only resulted in 11.8-11.9 ETs.
As always, I have some video clips of my runs. Click on the link for some hole-shots.http://my.execpc.com/~dfilo/Hole-Shot_11.6.mov
Ignore the music, it is from the PA system at the track.
I lost a small amount out of the hole vs. the Long Tube TPI (~3 hundredths), but keep in mind that my converter is only a 2600-rpm stall. The 2600 is a great match for the long tube tpi intake, however a 3000-rpm would definitely be a better choice for the SuperRam. I'll save that mod for next year.
I know that there is some more ET in this setup. It would be great to match up my ET with my MPH, which should/could be 11.3 - 11.4.
Nonetheless I am happy with my current results and I feel reasonably confident that I will be able to find those absent 2-3 tenths. One thing I should have done at the track was bumped the timing up a degree or two and brought my shift points up a couple hundred RPM to see if it would have made an improvement. Oh well, next year.
Overall the (ported stock GM intake, Ported stock GM plenum and AS&M runners) really performed great. I would have thought that I would have gained a little bit more with the SuperRam, But it just shows how good those stock style TPI components are matched to each other, and the quality of the port work.
By the way, the aforementioned 11-second Long Tube TPI parts could be yours for the right price. They really make for a great sleeper motor. There was a lot of money put into the port work, Lingenfelter work does not come cheap, (and neither will these parts) but the results speak for themselves. Shoot me an email (dfilo@execpc.com) or Instant-Message if you are interested. Serious inquires only.

fantastic!!! very very nice numbers.
good going.
umm, watching the vid's....it's me or it sounds like you're short shifting it? 58-6000 is where it'd definitely rip!
nice trap speed by the way.

Wow, it's great to hear such results with a TPI intake; I wonder what a proted BM base would have done too. With that 383 it may have helped.
It looks like you are on your way to some new and better numbers...

Hole-Shot, that sounds great  The stock TPI intake setup I have is exactly like yours, except the porting wasn't done by LPE. I'm really looking forward to the SOTP improvement I hope it makes along with a cam, early this summer.

if you manually shift it you will pick up but you have to get a real tach to do so
i use a shift lite only so i am not anticipating when to shift i just shift when the lite comes on
very good times

Thats nice. What makes this superram so great? I am assuming this is for L98 motors?
I should also add...as a point of jealousy, I cant stand how fast automatic cars at the drag strip....
Maybe i cant drive or something, but these people running autos run insane times.

Hippy,I live approx. 30 miles north of Milwaukee
not too far from Plymouth.:seeya
Corky/Ski, Any recommendations on the shift light/tach? (brands):steering:
Nuke, I have the 219 cam. The car is docile. I still get 24 mpg on the highway.

That is basically a sister motor to mine. :D
Hole-Shot, that speed will go up when you shift it a little higher.(e.t. will come down also)
Either way my friend, you're flyin' :steering:

That is some great ET's.
Looks like your picked up .15 from the Superram ?
Shift points will be critical in getting the max performance.

Re:
Very nice Holeshot !!! Thats just the start.... and great traps !!! btw, I forgot, who's heads are you running ? Do you know what they flow ?
On your timeslips.... you still have a tranny problem or something... you're missing a solid tenth in there somewhere. 1.59 60 ft with 117+ trap speed and 92 mph 1/8th should be 11.56-11.60..... in any regards, great job.
btw, with those 119 mph traps and maybe a little more converter, I think you're good for at least 11.3's and probably 11.2's..... with the SR moving up your peaks by around 500 - 700 rpm, you might want to consider a readjustment on the Vig in the neighborhood of 3000-3200 rpm. I promise you it will feel and react the same as your 2600 rpm on the street.
Good Luck and Congrats Again !!!
cheers,
