Default Best Sounding Mufflers for 1996 Corvette

I'm looking for mufflers for my 1996 Corvette Coupe. I want mufflers that have a deep rich tone that is medium loud a lower speeds and then quites out at highway speeds.

I'm not finding many mufflers for a 96 vette that fit what I'm looking for. A friend of mine has a 1998 Corvette and he has the Borla Stinger mufflers taht I like, but don't see where these are made ofr a 1996.

What muflers sound best for a 1996 Corvette? Wehre can they be bought? Are there websites you can listen to them at?

Sounds like your a candidate for the Corsa system. It's the only one that is nice at cruising the highways.

That's right. Before you fork out 800 bucks on a Corsa system, invest about 50 bucks in a pair of Thrush glasspacs and some dual tipped extensions and you will have all the depth and sound you can handle at WOT and still listen to Beethoven on the CD player while cruising the boulevards.

Oh, and by the way, lose those restrictive cats too while you're at it. They are the only REAL sound deadeners on your Vette.

Ahh hah, the most common question on the forum! Welcome to our addiction by the way. This place is great.

Expect to get about a dozen options on this question. Mine is Magnaflow :D .

Keep checking out different mufflers in terms of looks and sound and you will find something you like. There are pics of the Magnaflows if you click on the link in my sig.

Welcome again!

So then my add-on to this post as a new 96LT4 owner (since I was about to ask the same question) is this: Is there even an advantage to the Corsa system in regards to Hp or Tq? Sound is sound...lots of different ways to get it...but in my experience, any gains from a cat-back usually come from bigger pipes. Looking at the back of my car, I'd say my stockers are pretty damn big as is! That said, if I did decide to shell out the $800 on a Corsa, would I realize any gains (on the butt dyno, chassis dyno, or otherwise), or is it just an $800 set of new vocal chords for the LT4?

i think almost every catback will gain you around 10-12 hp but i agree that you should first try muffler eliminators if you have a 96 they arent near as loud as you may think. to have mine done including pipe and labor and everything was under 60 bucks! i still want osmething louder but 60 bucks is an easy way to hold me over till i can get some longtube headers and get rid of my cats!

Mine is also a 1996. I DID fork out the 800 bucks for the Corsas before I knew better. Yes the are supposed to increase the HP some, but not all that much.

The Corsa are actually SMALLER in diameter than the factory pipes by about a half-inch. The do increase the sound at WOT pretty much, but are way too quiet at idle. Cruising they are quiet as well.....you can tell the difference, but it's not no 800 clams worth of difference.

When I installed the Longtubes and removed the cats, those Corsas really came alive, but it was not a deep pleasant sound in my opinion at all; being more tinny and crackly sounding, like a really old flat-head V8 from the early 50's.

So far, everybody pooh poohs the Thrush glass pacs. I say, don't knock em until you try em. And they are cheaper than the TIPS that came with the Corsas.

Where is the best place to get the callaway super natural mufflers. Do you know of a web site for them?

Thanks,
JJ

Dynomax Super Turbo's. Don't buy those round ones out of Mid America with the tips. Get 'em at Summit or Jegs after looking up the part number on the Dynomax site. I brought mine to have them powder coated flat black, and had the tips from the original mufflers welded onto the new ones.

The sound is moderately louder than the stock ones, but it's a very deep bass. Not raspy like most of the straight-through muffler designs. I love mine, and spent $39 each at Summit plus $10 each for powder coating.

Rather than reviving a nearly 11 year old thread about the best sounding mufflers why don't you start a new thread about it. The original thread was about best sounding mufflers - you want quieter mufflers, apples and oranges.

P.S. This seems to be a new problem with old threads being revived. It is really a PITA to read through an old thread to get to the one new post. Please, please, please everyone start a new thread on your problems and save us all a lot of useless reading.
