Default engine idle

the engine runs at a steady 700 rpm...but it seems to sound like it is searching for an idle...it goes up and down..not to bad. It is only slightly noticable...Any ideas.. :chevy

Most often a searching idle indicates that the TB is dirty or the IAC is dirty or faulty.

mine is searching a little for idle, too but IAC is working-you can hear the hissing noise when A/C turns on..and TB is clean, was disassembled..

waht else could it be

hi..

definitely no vacuum leak, since engine was disassembled , and i meant, wiht the air inatke duct removed, you can hear when IAC turns on, just a moment before A/C clutch engages..thats normal...

Mine did that when the EGR Valve when bad. I removed it and capped it, and all was well, got better gas mileage too.

I installed a new egr valve right from g.m when I did the motor...It seems to disappear when I remove the hig flow throttle body air foil...I am still swaying towards a distributor rebuild as it has new wires, plugs...and everything was cleaned when we redid the motor. :chevy
