Exhaust question?
I am thinking about putting new mufflers on my NON STOCk 84 vette. I was told by a shop that he has i think the name is megaflow mufflers on his and they sound GREAT. He wants 360 for the mufflers and he will put them on for me. Do they sound good and is that a fair price?

Are you running cats? If so then you can get away with a loud muffler like what you've described.
One nice option would be to go with a flowmaster catback. The cost is similar and you can easily install this yourself. They resemble that stock "look" and they sound great.
I've got an '84 also...do you remember back when that car was new? It was about the most bitchen ride you could imagine back then...it was like a "concept car" for the masses. I still love it, but I have moded the crap out of it...still looks good from a distance...I wish it was more origional though for sentimental reasons. I've got a '97 coupe and am now getting the itch to mod it...it seems that the new car smell has worn out with the c6 coming out soon...talk me out of it before my history repeats itself. good luck! sj

I just did a search on http://www.corvettecentral.com/ for your year and found two types of Magnaflow mufflers. Part#324010 has dual tips for $189.00 per pair. The other part#324365 has LT1 style tips for $229.00 per pair.
Also, I just put a set of Magnaflows on my 95. They look fantastic and sound great. VetteNoob has been kind enough to host this AVI file for me.

Re: Exhaust question? (iceman_t1)
Thanks iceman The URL on the sound or whatever did not work i am not sure why
But will it sound right on a 84 vette with factory exhaust, with carb, or does that not matter?
Let me know thanks

I'm pretty sure it will sound different but the tone might be similar. I believe that the tone of different manufacturers tends to sound similar between different models. I reached this conclusion from listening to sound files from many sources.
Did you get an error when trying to listen to the sound file? Did you try to right-click on it and save it to your hard drive first and then play it?

It sure sounds like he meant Magnaflow. I have a pair on mine and would not call them loud by any means. I have also removed the resonator. Great sound and looks. There is a photo in the link in my sig.

Re: Exhaust question? (vettespd20)
I have a '94 and just replaced Flowmasters with Magnaflows (plus 3" pipe, highflow CATs, deleted the resignator. My car has a Procharger, so it thrives on little or no backpressure). The Magnaflows don't sound a whole lot different than the Flowmasters, until mid to heavy acceleration. Then, the Magnaflow sound comes alive! They are a little louder and the sound is a little sweeter. Like the Flowmasters, they have a deep tone at low RPM's and switch to a high (racecar) sound at the high RPM's. I love 'em!:hurray:
One other plus. The Magnaflows I purchased are stainless and have a lifetime guarantee.

Save your money!
With a fully functioning main cat, you don't need resonators (some call them mufflers) at all. Just run some straight pipes out the back with some nice ZR-1 tips. It really cleans up the back end a lot and it sounds so sweet. Not too loud either, just right.

Also with the few other mods I've done I think my ET & MPH (12.28 @ 110mph) is great.. only mod to the motor is 1.6 RR & 160 thermostat...
