Default 1996 dash in 1990 car??? Anyone done it?

Hi guys...I'm thinking about a future project and wondering if anyone has changed the dash in their 1990-1993 cars to one from the 1994-1996 cars? I like the later dashes better and just wondered how involved it would be?

They are quite similar, I'm hoping that the dash frame is the same or similar and that only the top cover would need to be changed, along with the corresponding center console pcs. I know the airbag cover would need to be added as the 90's didn't have a pass air bag...

Thanks for your input!
Josh

Maybe they'll chime in...

It'd be for a 90 zr1. I don't like the color of the dash trim, so was just going to change it to the black of the 92/93. Then I started thinking it couldn't be that hard to do the whole thing.

I remember the dash in my 96 coupe and loved it!

On the 94-96, the passenger air bag cover is simply part of the dash pad. I can't tell how it's attached exactly, I just assumed it will break open by the force of the air bag. Sorry, that's all I can add!

Thats me :D Im in the process of doing this, but im going about it by the economical method.
I purchase the items I need off eBay as they become available at a resianable price.
Everything pretty much bolts right up with the exception of the passenger side dash near the fuse box area. Its not to bad, once you get the new dash ad put it in place youll see what needs to be trimmed

it can be done and look like it should be there. i have an '84 with a complete 94 interior, including dash, seats, console, dic, and stereo. it was a little time consuming but it helped to have a complete newer dash to work with. if you get individual parts it is harder to see what goes where. i did the swap with the complete dash so all i had to worry with was mounting and wiring. everything else was bolted to the dash. i also changed out the heater/a/c system to the newer electric controls. i found the ducting would not hook up right with the '84 heater box assy. i have some pics i wil try to dig them up. best of luck it took about 4 days to complete.

Yeah, I put a 91 dash in my 89...

Used 96 gauges though.
