You only hit 264rwhp/298rwtq with a 383 or 396 set-up? That's what my basically stock LT1 is at....
As for the logic comment, the quote is sort of an inside thing, multiple meanings, but thatnks for the comment

I can't tell you how much it would cost; that would depend on what parts you use. The only info I have on a 396, I got from an article in July 2001 Car Craft.....
CNC AFR 195 heads
ED. RPM intake w/ 750 carb(probably close to a Super-Ram)
10 to 1 pistons
1 3/4" headers
Comp cam roller- 288/236* .555(1.6) 294/242* .540(1.5) 112*LS
554 HP @ 5900 RPM 538 TQ @ 4500 RPM
Hope this helps some. :chevy

MORE Performance 396 L98 (built at MORE Performance, Charlotte, NC)
Splayed Mains, Coated Bearings and Pistons
All forged internals (Callies Crank, Lunati Rods, J&E Pistons)
Accel SuperRam
AFR 195cc Comp Ported Heads
Crane 222/230 112 Cam
Comp Cams Valvetrain
On the GM ECM, 370RWHP and 490RWTQ. I'm moving to FAST tuning and removing the main cat, so I hope to be close to 400RWHP and over 500RWTQ when it's said and done.
Easily 15K into the motor. (God... I don't even want to count up the receipts... I'm addicted.)
But.. it's fun!

Same motor configuration as RonRed89 except Dart Pro 1 heads and a TPIS MiniRam, 396rwhp/400rwtq.
Also like him, I don't want to think about how much I have in the motor.

383 stroker
303 rwhp/415 rwtq..
I've never calculated the gross cost of everything.. but i'll give it a stab quickly here...
SCAT 9000 crank, Kieth Black 10.8:1 Hyperutectic pistons, Speed pro rings, clevite 77 bearings, Comp Cam Camshaft, shot peened/de-burred/resized factory stock LT1 rods, ARP rod bolts, Felpro Gaskets, New GM timing chain gear set, associated machine work (Valve job, stroker crank clearencing) and misc assembly stuff ran me around $2200 bucks..
I reused the stock heads, intake and Throttle body as well as the rods (as reconditioned above) and lifters... I ended up replacing two stock lifters (the all have 140k miles on them) at a cost of 14.00 each and the cost of the gasket set.. $22.00.. I broke the coolant level sender, cool temp sender and oil level sender when I yanked the engine out/put it back in.. those were abotu 200.00 to replace.. I broke the dip stick that was 7.00 and I replaced all the valve cover gasket grommits ($16.00) as well as one valve cover bolt I broke ($10.00).. I reused the valve cover gaskets because the set that came with my gasket kit were incorrect.. I reused the stock pushrods and rocker arms.. Oh exhaust.. lets see.. I reused it all except the cat. converters which plugged up.. and to have pipes made up for both sides ran ($150.00).. then I bought a ECM program from PCMforless which cost ($99.00) but after a few months we couldnt get the kinks out of it.. so I bought datamaster, an AKM cable, TunerCAT and a pocket programmer.. all probably ran about ($500.00) and of course a few changes of the oil for break in.... and coolant.. ($100.00)
lets see.. grand total..
right around $3332.00.. give or take.. BTW: I did all the labor myself (Except machine work short block assembly). hope that helps..
which works out to $31.00 per ft/lb and/or $122.00 per hp over stock..

Just make sure you spend your money on the heads, as this is where most of your power is made.
My 383 made 440rwhp, later I stroked it and bored it more to 401ci(basically .030 more bore over a 396) and spent some more time on the porting bench and picked up about 60rwhp..
car went 10.8 @ 130mph NA. this was a 3650lb raceweight or so.

I just got my car back.
It's a 383, putting out 379rwhp 370 rwtq.
I'm pretty disappointed with the power/$ ratio.
I have some little things to do (still have stock throttle body and injectors).
The engine builder (NOT the Vette Doctors) promised a lot more.
