Default Push in clutch to start car.

It seems like I have to push the clutch pedal through the floor to get the car to engage the starter. I am assuming this is a switch. If so, can this be adjusted? I plan on looking everything over this coming Week-end.

Thanks. :)

I know they usually set these switches so that you have to depress the clutch to the floor. This is to ensure that the clutch is actually disengaged before starting the car.

If they didn't do this and later on down the road a person changes their clutch that engages at a different location then the original, it could make for a messy situation.

The switch if I remember correctly is right on the clutch pedal near the top.

steelevette,

if you really dont like that, go look at some 1990 300zx's I know htey dont need the clutch depressed to start. I have been in 3, and all 3 did not require that it be pressed.

Thats kinda rude.?

I would suggest keeping the clutch thing but I would not suggest him get outta Corvettes.

Jump the clutch safety switch. Then if you get stuck on the railroad tracks with a train coming, your starter motor can move you off the track.

I've started my car and drove away a few times when I have had clutch pedal related problems, just jump the switch.

Steelvette, yes everybody did not read the question I think. The switch is somewhat adjustable or the rod could be bent. You should not have to push to clutch through the floor to start it. You want to keep the switch in place though so you do not accidently start your car in gear. You can adjust the switch so that the clutch is disengaged but not all the way to the floor so that is will allow you start the car. It is very difficult though to get to the switch, if you look at the clutch pedal housing, you will see it.

Here, I highlighted the key term. It seems his clutch safety switch is maladjusted.

Thanks for all the posts. I figured it out and it is now in a reasonable position. Where the metal rod attaches with a clip, can be bent and pushed togethor ever so slightly. I find the clutch pedal now at an acceptable level as the starter engages. Jeff
