Default Ignition Wire Question?

I replaced the OEM wires on my '86 with new Accell wires. I didn't, however, transfer the OEM plastic wire insulators from the old wires to the new ones. How important are the insulators to the overall performance of the engine? I just didn't feel like cleaning them and I don't like the way they look. Thanks for any help.

If you mean the wires under the EGR tube, time will tell if you needed them to protect the wires from the heat.

Those are exactly the wires I'm referring to. I totally forgot how hot the EGR vicinity gets. I guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend. Thanks for your response.
