Default 100 shot of Nitrous in a 383 stroker?

I have been considering putting a 100hp shot of nitrous in my 383 Stroker Vette. In the past I have read that a 100 shot will not have any long term effect on my engine as long as it is only used sparingly. I will not use it on the street only on the track inwhich I would rarely go. Any opinions on this idea?

100 shot is no problem. i would go with zex wet kit. the good thing about a zex over nos or other seliniod kits is it balances the nos and fuel mixture based on how much nos pressure you are running. so never lean never rich. also you might want to consider mds box to pull a few degrees or timing. and dont forget your purge valve and bottle heater, and even a window switch for saftey proposes. i have a 125 wet zex shot in my 91 l98 perfect every time.

Thanks! The msd box is presently being installed with the engine. If I go with with this mod I will do it correctly including all saftey equipment!
Thanks again!

The displacement of your engine doesn't matter nearly so much as your compression ratio does. Nitrous will dramatically increase your cylinder pressures no matter what kind of engine you've got. If you're running right on the verge of detonation and your nitrous system is just the least little bit off you can kiss the motor goodbye.

That being said your stroker is probably built with better components than a stock motor. If you've got forged pistons and such you've bought yourself some headroom. A 100 shot should be plenty safe assuming the motor is at least on par with stock for quality.

I am not going to have this done imediately because of the cost of the new engine but I will make sure everything is textbook before even making this move! Thanks!

when done right it will cost about $800.00 to $1000.00. unless you can find some good used stuff.

If there is one thing that I will not go used with would be something that can blow me up! I thought it would be more then that! Does that include labor?

no labor included, thats just for parts but its pretty easy to put in yourself. i did mine. $525.00 for zex. $100.00 for heater. $150.00 for purge. $60 for msd window switch. $ 300.00 for msd digital 6.

Nitrous will not blow you up. That is just in the movies. The only "blow-ups" I have heard about is with incorrectly using bottle heaters.

I have a buddy who has a 100 shot on his 95z28. The only major mods are a bigger cam and ported heads. He goes thru a bottle a week. I always thought that you should only use the juice sparingly or you would damage the motor, but this guy sprays all the time and the car runs perfect.

Don't hesitate to put a little "good" gas in there with the giggly. Nitrous adds timing and cylinder pressure which can both cause detonation if the tune isn't "spot on".

A 100 shot should be fine if everything is tuned correctly.

Good luck.

You're correct. Nitrous in and of itself is not flamable. HOWEVER if you shoot too much to your engine you'll make it go boom, not a pretty sight.

This is the reason I know I should go for New and installed by the professionals! Thanks Nathan Plemons!
