Not to sound ignorant,, I see everyone says to use a forged crank?? wouldn't a stainless steel crank be stronger?? or is it just a waste?? thanks, gary

If you drag race your Vette every weekend.Otherwise forged is just fine.

When I bought my c4 the previous owner had the motor built, a 383 superram, 219 cam, ported heads, after beating on it at few track days and numerous autocross the crank broke on the first main journal and destroyed the block. Dissected the motor, kieth black pistons, never could identify who made the crank but I don't think it was forged. The 383 was a torque monster I would guess over 500, but I think the hp is barely over 400, maybe with modern afr heads it would have been more, just my guess. Since then I've swapped a ls3 with a 10qt racing pan, headers and exhaust but otherwise stock, not even a hot tune. It's been more power, more reliable, and more seat time with less wrenching. Just wanted to tell you what my experience was, ymmv. Have good day!

I haven't seen anyone on here post about the new Dart LSnext block. You can use factory oil pan, motor mounts and GM Ls heads. You can put together a 454 small block and it will bolt right in.

Didnt know Dart was doing that, world did awhile back never heard much
The dart would be fun to do a 427 with a good ls7 style head.

I agree an '85 L98 is not the right starting block for 500 hp so many other better options to choose from. good luck

Hey guys I have a 91 350 TPI, I want to do a 383 build to get some decent horsepower, around the 300+hp mark, I'm working with about $2,500-$3,500, does anyone have any dyno tested suggestions? Any blueprints you can spare or know of any place I can get some from? Thank you.
