Will JB weld hold coolant pressure in?
Before you roll your eyes, hear me out, this only has to work for an hour, for the smog inspection. I JB welded the broken screw holes in my throttle body coolant piece, hopefully to stop the coolant from leaking there. I usually have it bypassed, but the last smog tech said he wouldn't pass me unless I put it back to stock. Think I'll be ok?.. or should I just leave it bypassed and cross my fingers that this new smog guy won't care?

It will hold, just let it sit and cure as per the directions. I've used the stuff everywhere, even in the place of "light" load conventional welds. :yesnod:

Wow JB weld will be tough to get out.....Anyho your Smog guy is a jerkwad because running coolant through the intake is not smog or emission related. It is only used to prevent the throttle body from icing-up in cold weather. My experience in such matters is to use diplomacy and hook it back up best you can and please the ****. Hopefully next year you will find a brain. You will have a tough time removing the JB weld though :jester

I plugged an extra hole in my spa heater element with it 10 years ago and it's still holding, but you need to let it set up for 24 hours.

Why not plug the lines inside? It would pass the inspection and you could do the JB weld trick as a security measure.

Yeah I agree. The guy was just a jerk.
Even here in CA they don't care about something not emission related. But some would argue that a cooler running engine or parts of it would effect emissions levels.
But we only have to pass the sniffer and visual inspection of the emissions system. The tires could be bald, no wipers and the headlights aimed into the tree tops-they don't care. But it better pass the sniffer or you don't register your car.
But in answer to your question, JB Weld is better than you might think a "glue" should be. It will hold if you follow the directions.

Re: Will JB weld hold coolant pressure in? (CentralCoaster)
I had an idiot mechanic put it on a 3000 psi hydraulic line for a one time flight and it held for the total flight time of about 3.5 hrs. It actually is still holding to this day even though its on the idiot award plaque instead of an aircraft. Oh it was convering a small chaffed hole so it got a small stream of pressure it'll hold.
