Default What the difference between a 4L60E 2wd & 4wd

The subject line pretty much covers it.

I'm refering to the differences in the tranny itself. Not the transaxle or what not JUST the tranny.

Thanks

The gear ratios are the same. 2wd truck? Passenger car? Corvette? The tailshaft housing and the mainshaft for a 4X4 are unique. The 2wd trans's have other differences, depending on the application. Interchangeability and being the SAME are two different things.

CFI-EFI.....so if I need a 2wd unit I have to get a two wheel drive unit and the same for a 4wd unit, correct ? I need one for my 76' project & have found a low milage one in a 02' 4wd S10. I assume from what you are saying it won't work.

First, I was assuming it was for a C4 replacement. Corvette transmissions have refinements other 700R4/4L60 transmissions don't. You can replace the mainshaft and tailshaft housing in the 4wd trans to configure it to a 2wd arrangement. I have no clue as to your project or how a 4wd trans may adapt to it. You may want to get it next to the project and see how appropriate it is.

The corvette version has different servo's in it. I think the clutch packs are heavier duty too. Other than that, I don't think there's much difference. My brother was looking into putting a 95 Trans Am 4L60E into his 94 Blazer but decided not to because of the tailshafts being different.

A larger 3-4 servo, different valve body parts to allow a full throttle 3-4 shift, and probably many other internal differences, I'm not totally aware of. More clutches per clutch pack? You will need a GOOD trans man to fully detail ALL the differences.
