Dana 36/Dana 44 Info
I have questions that I hope some of you C4 gearhads can answer.
1) The Dana 36 housing changed slightly and I'm getting conflicting years as to when that happened. From what I understand, the rear cover/batwing bolt pattern changed. One source lists 1990 as the year it changed and another lists '92. Which is it? I read in the forums something about "Generation 1" D36s and "Generation II." Are there any other differences. My Dana manuals show some differences in BOM part numbers starting in 1985 and later (carriers, stub axles), though the "early" and "late" numbers are mixed in '85-86.
2) How different are the Dana 44 diffs from the '80-83 C3s compared the '85-up C-4s. I've not actually looked at a C3 setup, but am I correct that the C3 has a different rear suspension and therefore the diff mounting system is completely different?
3) Are there any alternatives to the Dana Trac Lok (Posi) used in the D44s? Will other D44 limited slips/ lockers fit?
4) The Dana 36 is very simiar to the Dana 35 beam axle as seen in Jeeps. Has anyone ever tried using a Dana 35 limited slip/locker in a Dana 36?
Many thanks!

2.) You are correct in the rear suspensions and mounting. Your B.O.M. listing should show the differences/similarities in the internals.
3.) Not that I've heard of. I'm not sure, but I believe the axle spines are unique on the 44 ICA axle.
4.) Same answer as #3.
