Starter motor wiring '86
Ok stupid question time. How many wires hook up to the starter again? I reinstalled my motor and tranny and have three wires left disconnected. Two red and one big black cable. Do all three go to the starter or is the black cable a ground to the bellhousing? TIA.

First check the source of the wires. The battery negative cable goes to ground. The battery positive, and one other with a ring terminal large enough to fit, goes on the large solenoid stud that takes a 5/8ths" wrench. One more wire with a small ring terminal goes on the solenoid "S" terminal.
