HP gains from muffler eliminators
I have read a number of posts and ads claiming 10-30 HP gains from flowthrough exhaust or cat back systems.
If I keep my stcok exhaust components but replace the mufflers with eliminators , other than growl..... what HP gains would I get?

I'm not sure that 10-30hp is realistic or not. I'd say maybe 5-10hp. I could be wrong though.

im pretty sure i gained about 10hp with muffler eliminators, no cats and a open air lid. maybe a little more but i kind of doubt it. im putting out about 310rwhp

Where is the BS smiley when you need it??
Ask them for dyno test ....
Big comparison test a few years back on catback systems......don't expect more than 10-12 hp at the wheels.....not much difference between systems, but B&B was tops on LT4 with 12hp gain......
If your eliminators are just straight pipes you do drop 30-40 pounds of weight...

I'm still surprised to see these figures just from a cat back. I'm still learning the Corvette performance trends and results... but you can't get these similar gains in the Mustang\F-body world.

I would bet that I lost a little low end torque with elims. And I'd bet that I got it back with my B&B's. The only dyno I have for you is my BUTT_O_METER.

It seems that the LT1/4 exhausts are pretty well built... Anything you add or change (as far as catback) seems to produce minimal gains. Although I'd believe 10chp...
now if you're talking L98/L83 exhausts....

L98 vs LT1 vs LT4
I think that this is another thread where we must look at what engine we are talking about. Some of the responses refer to LT1 engines and some LT4, but the original question was asked about an L98 engine I believe. I believe the results vary from engine type to engine type.

i had hacked off my 3chamber flows and welded on a dual exhaust tips on each side and felt a big difference.i have a magnaflow cat on and thats all the restiction i have really.i have an 84' crossfire and noticed a good drop in ET and gain in mph on the gtec.noticed 2tenth adverage and 3mph gain.with my other mods i was trappin at 95mph max and now i see 98 and almost a 99mph speed on the gtec.i'd say thats a good gain for my pair of $80 chrome exhaust tips.and remember this is a crossfire not L98/LT1.

here is the score... the L98 exhaust is so damned constrained, that a set of elims will perk things up.
Another trick, if legal in your state, is to remove the pre-cats. That will really pick things up!
As 1996man indicated (without even knowing it), the LT1 exhaust is pretty damned good - he gained an entire 10 hp by removing cats and mufflers! Isn't that just great! He gets to pollute the hell outta the air we breathe for 10 ****ing hp. argh. Please, put the cats back on.

The first thing I did when I got my second '86 Corvette a few months ago was to replace the front y-pipe with one that didn't have the pre-cats, and to put on muffler elims. I love the sound and definitly had a seat-of-the-pants performance gain. I also put in a high-flow cat. Without a cat, pre-cats, and mufflers it way too loud for me!

You will actually lose horsepower with muffler eliminators, I know this first hand from hundreds of 1/4 mile runs. I used to run 108 all the time, when I cut the mufflers off I was at 106 all the time with an occasional 107. I out a Corsa catback and was back to 108mph.
