Best brand of serpentine belt? 93 C4
I was wondering what the best brand of serpentine belt to get would be.
Advance Auto parts carries 'Dayco' brand.
Is this any good?
Any brands I either should or shouldnt get ?
Does the brand really matter?

Melting Slicks
My favorite is Gates, for belts and tensioners. Just my opinion....

yes gates!
you can buy them at napa auto parts
but most chevy dealerships dont sell them.
they can however switch them out for a gm belt if they have the length.
good luck

The '93 belt is groved on boths sides and I've found it to be hard to locate at part stores.. Big NAPA stores stock them.. smaller ones.. i donno.. Autozone, Advanced auto and the likes will not have the double ribbed belt.. (at least they dont in my area). If that is your planned location of purchase I strongly recommend calling first and have them pull the part off the shelf to verify it is ribbed on both sides.. nowadays I just get my belts from the dealer.. 43.00 jobber cost.

the 93's changed to single-sided midway through the model year.
there was a post a few months ago regarding getting one of the few aftermarket double-sided belts, and also a separate post on converting your pulleys to use a more common single-sided belt.
i just got my last one at the dealer too.

I swear by the Dayco poly-cog belt. I used to go out of my way to get the Dayco. But Advance carries them now since they took over discount auto parts.
The Gates belts are good too. Heard the Goodyears were good too.

My belt is single side grooved, but I wonder if there is an advantage to double sided grooved.
Why?
The higher friction grooved side does not drive the power steering pump.
During hi-RPM, extended cornering runs at the track the power steering whines. Maybe I am getting belt slippage? Also when my coolant hose blew (resulting in a 90 MPH spin out on a corner), the power steering slipped due to antifreeze spraying all over the pulleys.
I wonder if a dual groove belt is better?

I think they only did it to prevent 'belt wander' under extended performance use.. i.e. at the track where the engine RPM varies greatly at a rapid frequency... I think the benifit wasnt worth the cost or hassle of the groved idler pullies or something otherwise GM would have kept it.. When every thinking about the best way of doing things I usually refer to the way the LT4's have it setup.. they were the engineers second run at the same engine in the same car after 12 years of R&D.. I think they had things pretty much nailed down by then.

the one I used was made by gate I think, little more expensive but it has the groved side which looks almost like a tire tread. very nice and very quiet. I have it on my vette as well as my son's truck and my wifes expedition. Got it at autozone, I would highly recommend it.
I just read the other responses, yes it is goodyear gatorback, excellent belt! try it you will like it.
