Default Octane Booster

Just filled up my Z with Union 76 premium having an octane rating of 91. I went to the 76 station for their old reputation of having better gas....paid $2.74/gallon

After hitting the pedal hard the car has a slight knock which is obviously not good for the engine.

Questions;

1) Which brand of gasoline is preferred in the beast?

2) Do any of you use that octane booster like 104+ seen at autozone?

3) Can the octane booster be added to an already full tank of gas and mix well????

1. Sunoco 94 only in my beast.

2. Unless supplemented by 100 octane unleaded - 5 gallons preferably - I buy it 5 minutes out of town.

3. Get the hell out of California!

Seriously - I hear Torco is some good chit!

I have always used BP 93, but have just switched to Sunoco 94 since I can find it now

Not to give you a heart attack but if you hook up a scan tool like Auto Xray you'll see a LOT more knocks than you hear. 91 octane doesn't even come close to controlling this. Toluene is the most effective thing I know of for raising octane next to lead. I actually buy it by the 55 gal. drum. You might get it in 5 gal. cans from a chemical supplier. 10% tol. will make a measureable difference. I suggest getting a scan tool and watching knock counts. Don't expect the knock retard to fix the problem. 15% tol. will probably fix your problem. I run 20% for road racing and have raced with the scan tool on. Knock counts were aceptable and as good as with VP Fuels 103. Toluene is used in the pump and race gas currently to raise octane. Too much tol. can affect flame speed and may be counterproductive. Buying it by the gal. is a rip. Drum price: $255.75, $5.00 cleaning charge, 2% envir. fee and sales tax. Split a drum with friends.

That 104+ octane boost in a can is crap. Not Ideal for your injectors either.

BTW, using Toluene is cool, but is doesn't have any lubricant properties. Mixing it with the proper amount of Mystery oil additive is recommended.
