CBS News -Lost Corvette
Just caught the tail end of yesterdays CBS News. Looks like a guy named Alan Poster had his 68-69 ? Corvette roadster stolen in Manhattan 37 years ago. He always kept looking for it, never found.
Last week, there was a suspicious crate at the port of Los Angeles, heading for Sweden. It was set aside for inspection. Opened up, the stolen Corvette. Ownership tracked to Mr. Poster. They showed him and Vette being re-united after all these years. Nice story.
All the numbers, facts above may not be totally accurate.

I caught the story on ABC. It was a 68' big block convertible. The look on the owner's face was priceless. He was blown away when the customs guys pulled the car cover off. It was silver, red int. originally blue.
The guy said he only had the car for a couple of months when it was ripped off. He remembered driving it, and being challenged to race on the street all the time.
Surprisingly, the cops claimed it had never been titled or registered anywhere in the intervening years... low mileage.
The ABC report was brief, but pretty good. They mentioned the auction prices today going through the roof on these cars, underneath pix of old sharks, shots of Bill Mitchell posing with the Manta Ray show car etc.
The owner said that he's going to have it restored, and give it to his teenage daughter. ABC anchor Vargas said,"She's going to be one popular girl", indeed.

I wouldn't mind hearing "The rest of the story". I'm sure the original thief or thieves have long ago sold the car. So, very likely the latest owner is out a bunch of $$$. And as the car was headed overseas, most likely it was in the process of another sale.
