yeah there is no way in hell the lt1 ran 170mph or the lt4 ran 178mph. The fastest ive ever heard of a stock lt4 was a grand sport that ran 170mph on a good day. with an actual 350 hp its just not possible to run 178mph. the c5 corvette had 345hp when it came out and the best i ever saw for any base c5 was 175mph but usually it was 172mph. the c5 has a lower drag rating which makes that possible. But i do know several people that have done 185mph in a stock ZR-1, even though the magazine testers got 181-182mph some cars are just better from the factory and are capable of a little bit faster on a good day. Then there are some people that can only do 176mph in a stock ZR-1. Those are the ones that werent timed right from the factory. just my thoughts on it.

I remember reading an MT article back in 93 or 94 when they tested the fastest cars in America. the LT1 corvette reached exactly 170mph.
I remember the same test in 96 of the LT4 netted 178mph.

Or was it 160mph and 168mph?

Maybe I am 10mph off for each car

Personally, I have gone 170mph in my GS. Don't know how acurate the speedo is at those speeds but I saw 170 at around 6000rpm.

On the GS registry people have reported 172mph on a stocker.

I have a stock 90 ZR-1. I have run several stock LT-4s at the track and have not lost in the 1/4 mile.

I guess it's a good thing I did not read this post before I raced.

thats nice runs for a 90 z! is it really bone stock or is there an exhaust on it? I know with just headers and a 3" slp exhaust and the forced air intake system on our polo lt4 car we got solid and consistent 12.3-12.4 ets at 113-114mph... I am sure that had to be good for 340ish rwhp at least.

like I said in my previous post, our polo lt4 was just a very strong contender from the factory and was faster hands down then my 96 lt4 collectors edition in every aspect even lined up against one another from various highway pulls... funny how two exact year cars with engine options can be that different.. maybe in the head castings?? in either event.. with the turbo on the collectors edition now.... I like highway pulls VERY MUCH.. I suspect that its gonna take putting the proposed turbos on the Z to get her caught back up. I am very much looking forward to the broad rpm range and boost.. I think it will be the end all of power debate on the highway between other various turbo V8's

I am sensing a tremendous amount of arrongance here from the ZR1 owners.

Everyone knows the LT5 is a solid performer and FASTER THAN LT4 top speed but to discredit the LT4 and putting it down is simply ignorant!

I can't believe this! The ZR 1 section treats Regular C4 owners worse than the C5 sections.

Listen, RALPH....I am simply speaking up for what I see here. I am calm, where did you get the notion that I needed to calm down.

Gettiing treated bad by another forum member or members while spreadinig the hate and bashing others in return is not going to make things better.

You're saying you've never lost to a LT4 reminds me of a night in a bar many moons ago.
Some douche bag was bragging about being 75-0 in bar fights, one guy I was with asked him how he'd like to find out how he'd like to be 75-1. That kinda quieted down Mr 75-0.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. I saw a lot of people here give props to the LT4 and state facts about its' performance in the 1/4 against the ZR1...which basically boiled down to it's a close race. I'd say that's giving the LT4 credit for its' performance by the ZR1 owners. So where's your beef with this thread? I saw nobody put the LT4 down, all ZR1 owners know our cars are pigs and will never get a holeshot on an LT4 or an LT1 for that matter.

The ZR1 is not a 1/4 miler so somebody posted it's top end as its' strong suit. You posted inaccurate info regarding top speed of the LT1 and LT4 in an effort to discredit the ZR1 by making its' advantage seem much less than it is. You didn't research your "facts" and I knew better...it only took me a few minutes to come up with the correct info. I don't see where anybody treated you or "regular C4" owners bad. It might interest you to know I also own a '77 coupe and a '99 coupe and had a '71 coupe for 10 years...I've had a passion for ALL Corvettes for 35 years now. I personally take offense to your name calling, there is no arrogance in this thread by ZR1 owners. Ok, maybe a few smart azzes, but that's the norm for the ZR1 section...you have to have thick skin to hang out here.

Your exclamation marks, name calling above (look at your post again...arrogant, ignorant, unbelievable), and now this post are not the mark of calmness. The BS flag was thrown on your 1st post and people tend to "pile on" afterwards but nobody directed anything at you personally or bashed you/treated you bad much less spread any hate. I've been had like that before (didn't do my research either) but much worse (actual personal attacks). I learned to do as much research as possible to minimize mistakes but when I make a mistake, be a man and apologize for the error and thank the person for the correct info. Not only did you not do that, you tried to maintain your position in your very next post.

From my perspective, you were wrong and now you're trying to play the "arrogant ZR1 owners" card in an attempt to get out of it. To borrow a line from Jack, it would seem "you can't handle the truth!"
Or you came into this thread with the intentions of creating hate which would be a sad, sad thing.

170 MPH in your GS works out to ~5700 RPM assuming your speedometer is accurate and your on stock tires/gearing. If the reported 172 MPH on the GS registry was by the speedometer, then they really don't know what the real speed was. Speeds have to be measured by certified instruments.

We treat you better than you treat us and that's a fact. I've had this discussion many times with various people from this section.

OK, how about me saying I never lost to a stock C5 until the 2001 model year came out? That's a fact.

That would me in my stock LT1.

I love all corvettes, the GS is my favorite, and it comes 28th on the list of the 50 fastest American cars produced prior to 2000.
The 90 ZR-1 comes in 3rd; the fasted LT4 was in the 1997 SLP/LT4 SS Camaro (100 produced)

Some douche bag, Huh.........

Although this topic has taken several tangents, I beleive I gave feedback on the question in the ORIGINAL post based on MY experience with the cars specifically mentioned on a ¼ mile track.

Your results may vary.

Regarding the “other topics” that now encompass this thread……….Modded cars, LT1’s beating C5’s, Top end speeds of unrelated cars, and Bar Fights?????? You guys can fight it out all you want and I hope you all have fun with it, but I hope others who have actually driven an LT4 against an LT5 on the 1/4 mile track will respond without getting dragged into the mud.

Play nice everyone!

Wow! I own a LT4 and love the car. In all the hub bub going on here I have managed to get more appreciation of my LT4. I always assumed a LT5 was light years ahead of the LT4 but I feel better knowing that it is as close as it is. But I still consider the ZR1 to be more excotic.
Oh yeah, everybody remember we all still have Chevy corvettes .
