True, just a darn shame it's not yet worth what it cost after nearly 13 years.

Not much of an investment, eh?
And, there are so many of these garage queens out there that they'll never bring the big, big bucks. Like that yellow ZL1 in Roger's logo.

I've been thinking about the price of ZR1s lately and conclude that we might be able to influence the price upward. The ZR1 community is pretty small. If we were able to establish some pricing guidelines and most owners bought into the guidelines, we could establish an upward movement in price. As you probably know, once an upward movement is established, it tends to be self-fulfilling. What do you think? Is this maybe a project?

I agree. That is part of the problem. I'm sure some people really do need to sell, but the number of cars on the market and the pricing tends to force the price down. I, for one, don't really have to sell and I am starting to conclude that trying to sell into this market is self-defeating. I get low-ball offers simply because a buyer thinks there are so many cars on the market that it is a buyers market. The logical conclusion is that I should just back away and come back when conditions are better. What do you suppose would be the impact if everyone who did not really have to sell pulled their car off the market and then, when some guidelines were established, put them back on per the guidelines? What might happen is the guys who really need to sell right away could move their car at a reasonable price and there would be few cars on the market - giving the impression that the market for ZR1s is tight and it is a sellers market. If it were possible to establish market climate, buyers will be attracted to the market for no other reason than the price of ZR1s has bottomed and are headed up. It might also help to reinforce some mystique as well - Brothers of the Beast...I think I saw somebody use that handle - kind of catchy

Bottom line is cars are getting driven, abused, and wrecked.
The nice examples always bring good $. There will be less good examples as time marches on.
I really haven't seen the market get that bad for nice ZR-1's.
The ones I like are still 25k-30k and alot of times are only 90's.
The ones in the teens are typically rough, rough, rough. Ones in the low 20's have 30-40k miles and typically avg paint at best with motor stains.
I know people will disagree but I like a clean car - one that looks like it drove off the showroom floor.

Makes sense but only in a hypothetical way. People go through divorces, bankruptcy, life changes and often have no choice but to sell.
The key for ZR-1 value (besides maintenance, condition etc) really is the paint color. The market dosen't affect rarer colors as much as the colors produced in higher quantities.

Beautiful.
What sucks is to drive it youd lose your azz unless you just want a "new" Z to drive in. I couldnt keep a car like that, Id ruin it in no time flat.

These cars are just like the wristwatches I collect. As there becoem less available....the prices will rise. When the availability of nice cars is reduced big time ...that is when the optional colors that are rare will come into play even more so.
