Default Sumitomo Tires

Anyone have experience with Sumitomo Tires on a ZR1 ??? I am thinking of picking up a set but I have only run Goodyears in the past. Any opinions?

Thanks

Regardless of cost advantage and many like them. I think they are ugly and narrow..I will try to avoid them at all cost. That is my opinion.

They are affordable and seem to hold up.

Default tires

hi, i have a set of htr-z on my 95 z07 coupe. i have had them up to speed and they handle very good. they corner good also. no problems here with them. i have seen a post here on the forum that shows that they are a little narrower on the tread face than other tires. you might look for that post. see ya

I like them and they work for me on my daily driver. Hard to argue with the value. GC

All true, I swear they are at least an inch narrower than a F1, but I do like the fact that they are about $200/tire cheaper.

The seem to do "OK" for the money. After about 40% wear they are most useless in first gear. It's an economical way with out losing too much performance to keep your ZR-1 in shoes.

When the GSC's wore out on my '93' Z I replaced them with the
Sumitomo's. I didn't notice them being more narrow than the GSC's.
And that's a big thing with me because I really hate tires that are to
narrow for the rims. They could be smaller than F1's though. They
filled the Z rims just fine.

Ride quality is good but the car seems very loose when cornering or
changing lanes on the highway. Traction is good also.

Yikes well different but does that justify the more than $300 upswing per tire?

It can only be justified if you can locate a set of the Goodyears. Appears they have stopped making the 315/35/17 size.

The Sumis may be one of our only choices.

A good discussion about the issue can be found here......

I know this doesn't account for the total difference, but the GY has the "built-in" rim protectors that stick out about an extra 1/2" per side for a total of 2" in that picture. If the difference of the two tires is less than 3" total, the difference per tire ends up being less than 1/2"...I'm not sure if I looked at one car with Sumis and another with GY that I could tell the difference between the two at the tread.
