Re: LT5 Stroker Kits (91mongoose)
Lets say I have sold some kits and will never sell another one. When they build it improperly and it breaks it is always the fault of the parts, not the idiot putting it together. To quote the Raven, "Nevermore Nevermore".
Stroker cranks only come from one place and they are unbelievably expensive. Jerry Crews is the only guy I know that has the connections to get a crank made. Your gonna feel like a crack ***** after being screwed that much.

Got to start someplace.
Let's see 4.125 forged steel crank, best bet is Moldex or Crower.

I don't care about the crank. I'm interested in the cost of the parts (and a reputible source) to do the bottom end of a 368 motor. I'm just window shopping at this point...

Re: (91mongoose)
LPE sells the kit for $3200. But then you have to machine the pistons for the pins, and bore the sleevs with a torque plate, which nobody has...
I bought the kit from LPE, and eneded up sending evertything to B. Kirchoffer to to the machine work, balancing and assembly... In the process my old mechanic got upset at me because he wanted to build it (he is a professional engine builder), but when it comes to the lt-5 some clearances like the sleeves installed height and the machining involved requires the tools and experience, I just did not want to go thru the pita..
ZR-1 charges Cheap!!.. and so a few others.. Trust me.. you are better off letting them do the short block at least

I'm planning on getting every penny back through sheer enjoyment.

Re: LT5 Stroker Kits (4cefed)
Is there a possibility of getting 5 of us together and doing the deal again ? Or would anyone have one "laying" around ?
Try not to laugh at that last question too hard.
Thank You.

Re: LT5 Stroker Kits (FrankUrbinati)
Lads,
Sorry to say, but Jerry Crews has just raised the prices on the LT5 cranks, they are now $6,000.00, I Know, I'm having my 368 upgraded to the 415" motor & this is what I have just been told is the new price.
It is a totally outrageous price for a stroker crank, in fact, I have NEVER seen a crank cost this much money.
It would be Just as much money to manufacture a blower kit for the LT5.
Why they cost this much is prety simple, supply and demand, I mean, thay ain't made out of Titanium are they!
As soon as someone else comes along & makes the 415" stroker crank, then the prices will drop, unitl then, you're at Jerry's mercy.
I wanted the 415" motor, & that's what they cost, just makes my car even more desirable :-)

Re: LT5 Stroker Kits (LIMEY)
You want to talk about real money ask Lane what it cost to take it to 431 CI.$$$$$$ ie deck plates, longer chains, longer rods. But thats what 950 HP on normal air takes.

My philosophy is to close my eyes and proceed as planned. :yesnod: Never, ever add up all the receipts on a given project. :D Reason has nothing to do with anything. It's not a question about cost as much it's a question about what you want. To have a 415 ZR1 Corvette is just going to make a dream come true for me!

Spoken like a true engineer ...bean counting has no place in an endeavor of this nature. Only question is for a premium amount of money spent is the quality worth the asking amount.

Re: LT5 Stroker Kits (4cefed)
even with the low volume nature of the LT5 stroker cranks 6K is pretty high $$$$ IMHO. with a large group purchase, I would think that a quality manufacturer that specializes in billet crank/cnc programing could produce a quality part cheaper. (moldex, crower, kryptonite, etc...) to bring that price down to about half that. problem is getting the 50 or so folks that are willing to put up 3K and wait for it to be done. the buick turbo guys are facing the same exact problem (deja vu).
I wonder if anyone has tried custom rods with a smaller "big end" and offset grinding the crank. maybe even welding the crank (I know, not recommended) to get a stroker. I will someday kill the LT5 in my car but at this point I sure hope the crank is OK because I would not buy a crank even if it's made out of unobtanium for 6k!!!! crap, I can buy a 750 HP 532 BB chevy short block cheaper than that!!! (don't worry, I won't defile the ZR1).
no offense, but that is alot of money even for a low volume crank. I guess it's the american ferrari after all!!!!
anybody thought of alternatives to "sole source" supplier.
if we can generate enough people looking to get the crank, the price will certainly come down. In this age of CNC manufacturing, I believe it MAY be possible. glad my LT5 is running well, can't afford to fix it at these prices.
that's exactly what scares people away from these cars is the riduculous cost of some of the parts. you are often better off finding a running LT5 that fixing the one you have!!! the entire engines were going for 13K just a while back. not sure any are left.
thanks for any advice. :jester

Re: LT5 Stroker Kits (Rkreigh)
When your the only game in town you can set monopoly prices. Lingenfelter is asking $3,000 for his cam shafts because he is just about the only alternative. It's going to be the way of life for guys who want to own and mod there ZR1's. Custom made parts with low production runs = high price. :yesnod: No way around that one.
Plus, the way I look at it the price of entry will make my 415 that much more rare. I love cars and have reached a stage in my life where I can get what I want and I want a 415 ZR1 and by God it should be ready here real soon................ right, Aaron?????? :cry I'm Dy'in here!
