Value of a 1990 ZR-1 with 1000 miles on it?
Hi,
A fellow approached me at a show that I was at today with my '62, and asked if I would be interested in a 1990 Corvette special edition coupe with about 1000 miles on it. I assume that the car is a ZR-1, because I know of no other 1990 special edition Corvette coupes? The car is not his, and he's not a Corvette guy, it belongs to the widow of the original owner.
Apparently the car was bought new and stored indoors, but it wasn't run for many years. He says it won't start, they believe there is a problem with the fuel pump. Can someone please give me a realistic ballpark idea of what it could be worth? I know some of us Corvette owners think our particular vintage is made of gold and worth millions, but I'm trying to get a realistic idea on what range '90 ZR-1's actually sell at?
Thanks,
Paul

Hard to say, due to the not running condition, I'd say between $20k-$25k. That's worth, not neccesarily what it would sell for. That's assuming it is a ZR1.

Cars like that typically sell in the high $20's to low $30's. Right now its a tough market so I'd offer him high $20's and take it from there.

You know what happens when you *** u me. More likely he got the year wrong and the way these things usually go it's probably not even a vette.

The fellow I was speaking with is a car guy, just not a Vette guy. He is positive the car is a '90 coupe, he is also sure that it is some type of limited special version. He said the deceased bought it new and never drove it, because he believed that it's rarity would make it worth a fortune some day... remember ZR-1 speculation fever! God knows what he paid for it, assuming of course that it is a ZR-1?
Paul
PS. Best and worse colors for value? Red and black good? What would be bad?

Just ask the fellow if he could supply you with the VIN! Answers all of the ID questions. Post up the VIN and I'll provide the information your looking for color/interior/two tops/tint etc. I should likely be able to confirm the instument package and confirm if it's a build for Canada or just a regular USA build. If you'd rather PM it that would be fine also.
A pharmicist in my small home town bought a '62 Fawn/stick new and I had to walk past it every evening on the way home from school. The "desire" I still recall the "desire"! Three blocks before the drug store a friends father and Doctor had a red '62 GT Hawk Studebaker. Both were "driven"!

In good running condition, with the paint/interior/engine in 10/10 condition, this car is worth 25K. This is the all time low for these cars (90 especially) - the new ZR1 is out soon, and the economy is tanking. This is the absolute worst time to sell a ZR-1 of any year, esp. a 90.

I'd think with 1k miles, even a red/red '90 would be worth $25k any day of the week. I'd think in 100% condition it would be more like $30k. But finding out if it's even a Z, and what color, will certainly help. My two cents but I think it would be a much easier sale if whatever is wrong with it is fixed. Rightly or wrongly some people tend to be scared of the ZR-1. If it's not running, that's not gonna help.

Thanks again guys, I now have a good idea on the value.
I'm not in the market for one, but I figure I'll go see it anyway out of curiosity (famous last words!!!).
Just to clarify a bit; the guy who spoke with me has not seen the car. He was called by the widow, his name was given to her because he is the "local guy who collects old cars". I'll bring my camera and post a few pics, we'll see what happens...

PS. Dave, the guy I bought my '62 from had a similar story to you, regarding always seeing a local fawn '62 when he was a kid. Thirty some years later after he finally found the one I now have, he began researching the original owners... Long story short, it turns out it was the car he always used to see when he was a kid!

Not even close.Maybe $30 but thats a stretch.Regardles of who ever buys this car most likely it will show up here.I just hope the guy looking at the car doesn't try to get it for next to nothing.

They are not out there although I think Dwight's brother did get extremely lucky. A cream puff with hardly any mileage will always go more then $25,000. They are normally $28-$32 but the economy is tough now and some of the later years are not bringing as much either so it brings down the 90 prices etc.
