I've got records that go back to the second owner, and I know who the delivering dealer was, but that dealer could not tell me who the car was delivered to, and the second owner cannot remember who they bought it from? I'd like to talk to the first owner to see if maybe the pizza box was still around.

well if you have the vin you can do a free vin check, and then it will tell you how many records are on the car, then you might have to buy it, but you can get the full history of the car, including emmisions tests or anything that happened to that vin.

Do a title search, several companies out there that will do it for you.

A title search company like Carfax might have that info. Or if the car remained in state and emissions is required they might have that detail.

Try posting what you know about the car. Some of us have been around since the beginning and just might remember the car.
Quite a few cars went from one side of the country to the other and back, (not implying that yours did), good luck with your search.
