In 2005 we averaged 156 for 90 miles on Highway 318 in Nevada. The dash cam was running for that 34 minutes of unadulterated fun so I can review the course anytime. Just under 20 seconds per mile at times according to the mile markers in the video.
The fastest was in 2006 when Dwight and company kept blowing by us on a wide open road late one night north of Vegas. I don't actually know how fast we were going because I never looked at the speedo. I was too focused on spotting anything in the road to check the speed... yea, that is how fast we were going!
It was nice and cool and slightly downhill... Don't think I will be doing anything like that again.

About 125 to 130 second day I my Z. Was showing little brother what the Z could do. It got there alot faster than any thing I had driven before scared the $#!@ out me and him I do take he out on a lonely mile stretch and get her up to about 100 or so then shut it down. I'm with falconfling on the clutch in my C5 Z06 doesn't have the positive feel that my ZR-1 has even with a new clutch and flywheel in her.

173 mph. qn the third day I had the car.Coming back from L.A. to Fla
Bone stock, it felt great. Over 150 it really settles down, feels goood.
But in the 170's it climbs slow and you get a chance to think about things like,.... I've never been on this road before.....my only son is riding shotgun, if we go, it's the end of the brand....what if a tire blows?
I backed off and brought it down to 120, which, at that point, felt like a "moderate cruise".
Then, cresting a rise in the road, there they were. A Texas highway crew clearing a bunch of dead wild pigs from the road that had been killed by an eighteen wheeler. I nailed the brakes and managed to slip past them at 90mph. Very scary.
The Kid then took the wheel and brought it up to 155 before we both chickened out again.
Top speed, not my thing, but if you own a ZR1 and haven't been north of 150, what did you buy the damn thing for, posing?

Yea, I'm still high on them. The leather is of top quality as well as the craftmanship. They really keep me in the car when I'm beating on the Z in the twisties

On that occasion the car seemed to squat down and settle in very nicely. It felt like it was becoming "one" with the road. I didn't have any curves to test the steering qualities, but "floating" was not my experience at all - seemed to be reacting to some down force, if anything.
But, you felt "floating". Hmmm.... I'd be interested to know why/what was going on there. Suspensions...Interesting stuff. There are some deserted "C&T" roads all around, but you hardly want to go more than about 60-70 on them cuz the car feels like someone is rocking the car from all corners at the same time, and that "floating" feeling you mention kinda rings a bell.
Interesting thread.

Good CD, (Coefficient of Drag), too, better than the C5 coupe. With more horsepower, and lighter weight, the 2001 ZO6 can't match the C4 ZR1 at top end.

As for your top end that day back in 2006 Ted, I had the G6 pinned at 125 when you FLEW by me like I was going back in time!!! You had to be doing at least 175 mph - VERY NICE! Luckily the guys who left before us had 5 state troopers all over them (all three of them got BIG tickets) which is why we had an open road for FUN! LOVE IT!!!!

Only 110 but
I'd just gotten it from this incredibly interesting guy in Jacksonville, Florida. (but thats another story). The fascinating part to me is how fast they drive in Florida on the interstate going west. I held that 110 for over 2 hours following the guy in front of me,and back about a quarter mile. They drive so fast there, even the pickups with the boxes and mattresses and toys in the back were doing 85-90. I'd put my hand on a bible on this one.

First time 179mph. After P/P and totally rebuilt poly suspension 181mph smooth as glass. But I think I'm the only one on this site that actually made a video of the 179mph run in my red 90 Z.http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/n...llyfast005.flv
