not much has changed in 50 years. Was riding with my brother over to Alburn Alabama back in 66 in his 61 fuelie. stone stock. we were doing 145/150 when we passed a MG going top speed. He backed off when the car started to float and steer like a boat and a bit of burning clutch coming up thru the shifter boot. Only did that once but spent a lot of time in the triple digets and would hit around a 100 in the 1/4, flat 14 sec..

Right there too: I ran 144.23 mph w/3.45 gear. (WANNAGOFAST event in Monee)
Bob Banks, also ran his 510 hp package, but sporting 410s did 138.xx in 5th gear. I ran beside him, but he beat me at the 1/2 mile point. However, I was closing. If we'd run a 3/4 mile race, I think I would have had him with the 3.45 gear.

If I recall, my 144 came from"a roll". My next run I hoped to beat that since I was going from a dig instead. BUT I lifted at about 700ft when I encountered that dip in the runway. I think that run came in at 139 so I was really looking forward to this year ands then the oil pressure sensor sprang a leak. Always something.

155-157 on that sweet *** 130 Toll around Austin, surprised my buddy in his H/C/I C6, The faster we went the quicker the ZR-1 accelerated, it's like it has something hiding in the basement and lets it out when the time is right. I always knew the car was built to run flat out but to feel that long 3rd and 4th gear pull is really amazing for a car built back in the 1990's. I have been blessed to have owned and driven a variety of powerful cars and I have to say that even in stock form the LT5 is my favorite powerplant, and pound for pound as an NA engine it is the best of the best. pulls to the moon and can last the trip!
