Default 94 ZR1 Removing Transmission Help Please

This is specifically regarding the rubber shift boot BELOW the console trim plate. My question is do I have to remove any of the rubber boots to remove the transmission. Thanks in advance.

It makes it easier. Its also easier to remove the shifter assembly.

Have to: No. But it will pull it off when you drop tranny.

Remove
-battery ground cable from battery
-console door
-shift pattern, retaining pin, ****, reverse lockout
-shifter/console trim plate
-upper shift boot from tunnel (I've found it easier to just take acorn nuts off and remove upper boot totally)
-trans in 3rd
-remove MAP sensor and accordian intake duct from engine so tilting doesn't damage
-3 x electrical connectors on tranny
-bolts on tranny

Some steps simplified. Ask more if you need it.

The boot in the car stays, although sometimes it comes lose from where it passes through the body.

To clear trans tunnel when you lower/tilt to remove. Support engine at back of oil pan without damaging it.

Lube fork ball and trans input shaft where disk "floats"

Clean PP and flywheel friction surfaces with brake cleaner.

Symmetrically remove and tighten PP bolts

Bell housing removal requires sliding fork off ball before dropping bellhousing. Remember opposite to install.

Would replace pilot bushing. Pull with blind-hole puller.

As Ted stated use a puller on the pilot bushing.

Do not use the old wet paper towels or grease method to remove as you may push out the oil crank seal used on the LT5 crank shaft.

Man U R awesome! Chuck says he owes U a brew We're half into this process so there may be more questions on our part. He asks if U might know of whereabouts of an original throw out bearing as opposed to an after market production. We understand they are almost impossible to find. Thank you so much for your assistance

No. Jim at power torque systems may. I'm guessing he's still in business? Didn't return my last call.

I'm running a Carolina clutch stage 2 in my track car and throw out has held up.

The throw out bearing that comes with the clutch assy. will do. No need to search for a NOS bearing. But one thing to look out for is to get the correct year throwout bearing for your trans.. There are two different sizes (early, and late), and they can't be told apart by eye. Slide your replacement over the tranny mainshaft cover to make sure it fits like the original, or you'll be stabbing that trans in there and it just won't go.

Don't ask me why I know this.....
