Default ZR-1 Engine Noises

Morning all,

I went to look at a 1990 Z yesterday and noticed that the engine wasn't as smooth as I expected it to be and the motor had what sounded like a top end rattle when you stabbed the gas and it returned to idle. I was under the impression these were super smooth engines. Car seemed to have plenty of power.

Any insight?

Tony

Should be very smooth. Probably bad injectors if it isn't a steady miss, though there a lot of possibilities.

If you are seriously considering buying this car, I'd be happy to come and do a full inspection of the car for you

It likely needs basic maintenance (injectors / plugs / wires / pumps).

Shoot me a pm and I'd be glad to discuss the car

David will do a great inspection for you
I am not sure what pumps we are talking about? Vacuum leaks and vacuum pump high rate of cycling I know which is sometimes normal for a vacuum system 20 years old and not maintained (an easy fix).

If the car has a miss, not running on all cylinders the cam chains-flywheel will rattle, sounds like a mild rod knock. The injectors go out in these early cars, not a question of if but when.

Thanks for the replies guys I appreciate it and a big Thank You to David for the offer to inspect it. It looks like the car has sold anyway. It was priced right at 11,500, but more than I wanted to tackle honestly. I'd rather spend a little more money and get something that's ready to go.

David, if I find something the peaks my interest I will contact you

Wow. $11,500????

I'd be glad to help with any advise / inspection

Yes, but the car needed at least injectors and paint. By the time I put the money in it, it would be what a similarly priced nice example would be so I held off. One thing it definitely had going for it was is was the maroon color that they only made 181 of in 1990.

If I find something else that fits the bill, I wil be calling on your services

Tony
