ambitious zr-1 restoration project
i have been dabling in my thoughts about a zr-1 restoration project. something that brings the car up to modern performance and quality standards.
interior option 1;
-keep same design and wrap dashboard, seats, steering wheel, and doors with premium double stitch leather with new carpet. i would also replace all the plastic trim pieces with new ones.
interior option 2;
-re-design the interior dashboard and console along with gauge cluster. this would require programming the electronics. interior will take alot of pointers from the new c7 interior.
both options should produce that new car smell once again.
mechanical-wise give car to a tuner for 475hp to 500hp package that maintanes oem durability and fuel economy and emissions (or as close as possible), so that means no cam work or silly exhaust options that wakes up the neighborhood.
or just say forget it and get the c7....

How about a Haibeck 510hp. conversion, and a can of this:

Then you can go into hock and get a C7 anyway.
The best of both worlds.

A rewrap of the original could be cool if done right...expect $5-12k to do it right, depending on your skills and connections.
However, redesigning is pointless, you'll ruin a classic Zr1 and make work for someone else to undo later when you grow tired of it. The ZR1 holds a candle all of it's own...it doesn't need to be modernized.

Keep your eyes open for modded ZR-1s for sale. If the car is what you want from a power train perspective then the body and interior will be the focus of your personal mods. Look at the yellow 415 that just sold... (recent thread ) much bang for the buck there and a beautiful car to boot!

Drifting
I'd like to redo my gauge cluster by using a large tach in the center, move the factory digital speedo to the right, and put aux gauges to the left of the tach - kinda like what you see on some Ferrari's - http://autotopcars.com/2014-ferrari-...-engine-power/
