What Condition Causes Secondaries to Open?
Curious as to what conditions trigger the secondaries to open after power key is placed into power mode? RPM? Vacuum? Throttle position?

must be above 150 degrees F (I think that's the value) and there must be no service engine light. At the high temperature end - coolant and oil - the ECM prevents full power. There are probably other conditions that prevent you from killing the thing, but that's all I remember. If someone has modified the software, all bets are off. Keys on ...

My response to the initial question posed in the thread header was as follows:
"An absolutely juvenile lack of self- discipline in search of pure fun to provide pleasure and immediate gratification, and I do mean immediate"
I did not know you were seeking a technical answer.
I am sticking with my first response

What conditions Allow/Cause Seconcaries to Open?
This will help http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...diagnosis.html
Basic Conditions that allow Secondaries to open:
"In order for the Secondary Port Throttle Valves (Secondaries) to open, the following parameters must be met:
Coolant Temperature 20 Deg C (68 Deg F) or above
Oil Temperature 20 Deg C (68 Deg F) or above See ECM Code #52 Item #3. ZR1 ECM CODES 1990 TO 1992
System Voltage 10 V. or above
Trouble Codes (SES Light) None
Power Key On"
See Throttle versus RPM diagrams which cause Secondaries to open
I did not know Trouble Codes (SES Light) will NOT ALLOW Secondaries to open?
All...Hope this helps.

Great advice from Marc Haibeck:
"For good Secondary Intake Port health, I recommend this procedure. While cruising in high gear, quickly dip the main throttle past the Secondary trigger point and pay attention to avoid dropping the throttle nearly shut. If the main throttle should close to less than 4.7%, just dip the throttle again when the road conditions allow it."

me! first I open them by warming the car up and then planting my foot firmly to open the throat of the beast
then I carefully watch for my shift light to blink as I rip off a 7400 shift
the last "good one" I caught cost me a couple of teeth off the crown of the pinion gears. my bet is that the dana super viper gears will fare a bit better and it will be the spindles next
but alas, no more. My beast had it's tonsils out, no more flappers for me!
my best philosophy is parts left out don't break and allow me to "add lightness"
I noticed some slight mid range torq improvement and better throttle response, other than that, nada
keep em in for emissions
