So true.About 18 months ago there was a 91Steel Blue,17,000 miles not too far from me that needed injectors. The asking price was $17,000 which if the car was clean was a smokin price on a rare color.

Default comparing cars

When i sold my first GTO, I thought I would buy it and it sat for a while on autotrader. After a couple months and my dad selling his midyear, he decided to buy it (local deal) with full documentation. I think 16,250 was a great deal but he needs to get the injectors done. You will see most "driven" zr-1's have had the work done. My dad doesn't care too much though, he barely drives the car at all. He just always wanted one since it first came out.

I have been forced to daily drive his z a few times when my car was down or i didn't have a car (I am in school and live at home).

I will say, don't compare it too much to your c5z or c6z.

I own a c5z and it is my ultimate car. I can understand your drive for a zr-1 from when you were young. I was in 5th grade when the c5z was released and I was convinced I would have one.

The c5z vs. c4zr-1 is night and day to me. The c5z feels much more modern. I love the wide body of the c6. With that being said, I would take a c5z + c4zr-1 over a nice c6z06. I have also driven a c6z and it is night and day as far as performance.
I sold my supercharged 525rwhp corvette and kept my black on black zr1 with mods. My zr1 feels firmer and sturdier, handles better (mine has a roll cage) and just love the noise from the LT5. It has a little over 408 rwhp but it applies it so differently. my c4 feels much more solid at very high speeds. I got 315's all the way around so my c4 handles much better. even though my black on black c5 was nicely set up and looked fantastic, nobody ever noticed at car shows. everybody notices the c4 zr1. it is a legend. this car could have done more with more corporate support but it was just left to die off. this is the cheapest dohc (4 cam) high performance car in the world. take a look at porsches and ferrari's etc... 4 cam is the high end world standard period. I truly love the c6z06 because of its light weight, 427 dry sump engine and wide body. I think this is the best balanced car that chevy has ever made. so many choices. I wont sell my zr1 either.

It got 23 MPG on the 1200 mile round trip to Bloomington. It has never failed to start, or run perfect (well ok it dies once in a while due to the cams with the A/c on)

....still is mindboggling to me that a car with this performance can be this "docile"

I've got just over 87k on the LSV now and the 95 is driven as often as possible and more often gets the nod as the weekend weapon of choice over the TT which while brutally fast, lacks the sweet song and seat comfort of the ZR-1

durability on the LT5 is excellent. and there are enough really helpful enthusiasts to help you work on and trouble shoot the car

I also highly recommend the following

graham behan LPE Indiana
Marc Haibeck ZR1 Specialist Chicaco
Aaron Scott Thomasville GA
Vette Docs NY
Corey Henderson Henderson Perf New Braufels, TX

as folks that can help you with a major project

there are many more as well, these are just the folks I've personally worked with and have uber respect for their work

good luck with finding the ZR-1, they are quite the beast
