RIP Phil D.
with a very sad heart I learned of Phil passing
short story, I went to Aiken GA for corvette drags, was running my 93 LPE
a friend of phil's backed his truck into me and damaged the car
I was having a fit and falling in it as my mom used to say as I was trying to sell the car and having a tough time
Phil comes over and just says "where would you like a hood shipped to, I have one for you"
off one of his many ZR-1 that were highly modified no doubt
that's the kind of man phil was
he would give you way MORE than the shirt off his back
if it weren't for phil "vouching" for me with Larry,
I wouldn't have the LSV
that's a long story

Ron, I just heard this myself about 10 mins ago..very, very, sad news.!!
One of the greatest people you'd ever meet and a true champion of the ZR1/LT5...it was an honor to call him a friend.!!
Rest in Peace Phil, you will be missed...

It is hard to put into words Phil's impact on my life since we first met,at the ZR-1 Gathering @ Bowling Green in 1998. Being that it was our first ZR-1 event to attend,my ex-wife and I were total strangers and really weren't sure what we had gotten ourselves into. Phil made us feel like family that day and thus began a long friendship.
Godspeed,my friend! I look forward to the time we meet again.

I'm not sure I ever met Phil, but I've been around the ZR-1 group for the last 14 years and his name is very well known. RIP Phil

Wow--I'm really saddened by this. Phil was just a great guy, that would absolutely give you the shirt off his back--with a smile & that great laugh of his.
He was a phenomenal drag racer, that could get 100% out of every car he'd drive. I even had Phil take my car down the strip @ BG to be sure I was driving it right. He was the only person I ever let take my car down the track.
Godspeed on your journey, Phil--you'll be remembered & missed...

We have a fund going on the net listserve to buy a brick in Phil's honor. Phil was an amazing person - always paying it forward. May he power-shift in heaven with John eternally.

I spoke with Phil several weeks ago & he never mentioned anything. Then later an email about 2 weeks ago. still no mention. He would be pleased to know that those of us behind him consider him to be one of the "Good Guys" who certainly had the "right stuff."
He will be missed.

Here are a couple of photos that Phil sent me a while back of my ZR-1 that he used to own at a gathering. They are my most prized possessions of all the ZR-1 memorabilia that I have.
I had spoken to Phil a few times after I found out he was a previous owner of my Z. I guess he saved my number and just called out of the blue one day and asked for a mailing address. I would think that is probably one of the largest gathering of turquoise ZR-1s ever other than at the factory. The one he owned and that's now mine is the third one from the right.

The front shot ... first is Breck Albert's from Arizona, the next is one from FL with plate PAW23X (probably Phil's) and the third one is mine with IL plate WIDER3. The 90 in position 4 belonged to Bill Maloney from NJ - recently sold. The rest I can't read the plates from my photos ... I think those photos came from my camera; I must have sent copies to Phil.

That was Carlisle 1996 - my turq is somewhere in that mix too. There were two more turqs in displays and not available for the lineup. A total of 400 ZR-1s were there ...
