Would this take place of a tech 1 with the correct kind of software on the PC? Could it be used for tuning?

I don't want to buy something that can't be used with the LT5.

It does say it can work with 93 Y-body cars, but.. in general I think that interface was meant for the newer flashable GM ecm's that came out on 94-up vettes and camaros etc. The LT5 was such a low production model and they had decided to not carry it through to the obd2 conversion (1996) so they kept our cars with the old school 8-bit controllers with the removable proms.

I would say that it does not look like it will work for you.

The cable would work for your car IF used w the scantools he states in the post. The scantool does not take the place of a Tech1 which allows control over various systems on the car. You would use the scantool to record engine operating data which ultimately is used to modify the calibration.
However, you also need a bin editor, chip burner and chip eraser.
