Default 5 spoke wheels on a 92?

I just purchased a 1992 ZR1 and it has the gray 5 spoke wheels.
Are these correct for a 92?

No, salad shooters in 90, painted sawblades are correct for 91 and your 92, polished in 93, 5 spoke in 94 and 95.

I really like the looks of them, I was just surprised they were not stock on this car.

Not until 1994 and 1995.

Just my opinion but I think the A-molds are one of the best looking stock C4 GM wheels, with 90's second.

Not correct as has been mentioned BUT I'd think your primary concern NOW would be confirming that the 5-spokes are genuine GM product and NOT after-market replicas.

In the second window clockwise from the valve stem there should be the "JWL" wheel certification that is on all genuine GM 5-spokes. It will be very obvious. It's cast into the wheel proper. If you wanted you could remove the wheels and confirm the GM/OE casting information on the back-side but the "JWL" certification casting should suffice for originality purposes.

So many people bought the A-Molds when they came out for the 94 that having a set on the earlier cars is kind of period correct. I know that's what my father did on his 91 and that was the only modification it ever got.

I like them better but I wish I had the originals although I also have after market alpine radio and 3" exhaust. I don't know who made the exhaust but it is highly polished stainless, looks great and sounds great. I have been trying to find a name on it somewhere but haven't found it yet.

In a post directly above yours is a set of darn near perfect sawblades that are so reasonably priced I am tempted to buy them, even though I have no use for them whatsoever.

If nothing else you would have them, which might not be possible if you search in the future.
You could use them if you ever simply want a different look with very little cost.
However, should you ever go to sell the car in the future, having the correct wheels, even if not installed, could be a very important consideration for the purchaser.
Many installed the A-molds to update their 90-93, when they came out, and many continue to do so.
But the sawblades are no duds either, and look great when in VGC.

Enjoy your new car, and congrats, but do yourself a favor and pick up those wheels!

I really liked the polished centers

unfortunately they wouldn't clear the big brakes so I upgraded to chrome amolds which look great

I'm partial to polished a molds if you aren't going with CCWs which I think really look great on the car

I went back to the classics and 18 inch tires and wished I had done it years ago

Unfortunately mine do not have that mark on the outside. Does that mean they are not OEM for sure?

It's NOT a good sign for sure. On the back-side the fronts would be cast 10214046 and the rears would be cast 10214047. There would also be casting information reflecting size and offset but that's not relevant if the OE information is missing.

Even an after-market wheel should have the width and offset cast in the back-side of the wheel so it's certainly worth a look.

Do your rears have a very deep pocket at the wheel nut mounting area? If the depth of the pocket for the rears is a match to that of the fronts then they're for sure after-market.

I'd take a look.

This is the image of the JWL and it's second window clock-wise from valve stem. With valve stem @ 6:00 the JWL would be @ 11:00

The depth of the pocket in the rear is much deeper.

I wish they would have been OEM but I still really like them. They are in perfect shape and looks great on the car. I was never planning a restoration anyway although the car is in great shape, I'm planning on enjoying it this summer.

And you really think that I have not been thinking the very same thing?

My first thought was lamp or coffee table bases, that would certainly appreciate over the years!

I need help.
Then again, we all do!

If bolling does not buy these wheels, especially given the above discoveries, he is missing the boat, IMHO.

You could easily spend double that on one wheel!

Marty

Wonder if the wife would like a new coffee table........................
