Mechanic and Maintenance Questions ....
Can you trust the local GM/Chevy Mechanic?
Independent Mechanic or the even the Stealership / Dealership?
I would love to be able to visit Marc Haibeck but I am located in Florida.
Just curious how your guys maintain and repair your ZR-1?
Thanks

Depends what the case is though, but I would really try my best not to take it to the chevy dealer. The ZR-1 is pretty much a DIY car for most things. Lots of information on the web to maintain these yourself.
For anything really major: South Georgia Corvette's Aaron Scott (Thomasville, Ga) is the closest LT5 builder I'm aware of to FL, but do not see the website operational anymore. Perhaps someone else can chime in to see if that option is still there

If you need to have someone do the work you may want to contact White Racing in Tampa, I know Curt has had a few just not sure if he does any work on them.

If you are capable of some basic mechanical skills, you can take care of most issues with your car with some questions and tips here or on the ZR-1 net site.

One needs to have some basic tools, a digital volt meter, maybe a scanner, and definitely an FSM. Armed with that, you'll be in very good shape.
As for routine maintenance, MOST of the issues you'll run across can be narrowed down to injectors, vacuum leak, coil(s), and starter. The LT5 is bullet proof, so if it hasn't been damaged you're probably golden!

My local Chevrolet Dealer has a technician that learned a lot, while working on my '92 ZR-1. He was the only one that works on the 2-3 ZR-1's in my area. Otherwise load it up on a trailer and visit Marc, and spend the weekend in Chicago. I've done that before.

They maintained my car when I first got it 20 years ago, and did some of the mods. But they are not tuners, no dyno, just repair and maintenance. Just expect to pay top dollar.
P.S. Where you at?
PM me for a more detailed opinion.

also Aaron Scott at SGC just a few miles north of Tampa in Thomasville GA
too many folks "fear" the LT5. it's a very basic DOHC
you want complicated, fix an Audi, Merc or Bimmer
they are WAY more complex than the LT5
the ZR-1 net registry is another great tool to find folks in your area to help.
start a "wazoo" club in your area, and you'll find quite a few folks willing to help because the car is a special beast and the ZR-1 community is a pretty tight knit bunch!!!
