Heresy?
Ok, I am sure this topic is akin to heresy but I just wanted to ask the question. I have a 1990 low mileage ZR-1. Is it possible, not saying that I am going to do it so don't throw the stone yet, to put an updated nose on her? Is it a direct fit etc?

it has been done a thousand times. The nose of a ZR-1 is the same as any C4...lots and lots of 90's or older have been converted to the 91 and up front end. The 90's bumper support is lighter, maybe you should leave it.

Ironically, most of the conversions in C4's are (or were) to change the BACK bumper to the newer style. The big problem is the belt molding difference. The Front bumper is a bolt on, but you also need to change the front inner fender pieces. Yeah, pretty close to heresy on a low mile Z.

The biggest challenge is finding the rear bumper mouldings and the short Dogleg piece. The doors are the same as base car.Back in 1991 a lot of people were doing this.

Others have said the 90 looks more correct and integrated with the lines of the rest of the front, and therefore looks better than the later ones.
Although I have had and have only later ones, I have come to agree that the front of the 90 is the best look!
Truth is truth. You can deny it, but it does not make it untrue.
Enjoy your 90 as is.
That is my $0.02.

I too love my 90. if I were going to change the front end I would try to get a front end from callaway aero body . but finding one of them is costly and impossible .

Craig, the 1990 is the only unique one. the rest of them all like exactly alike ..sans a badge here and there. The wheels are absolutely unique.. no other year has them. Your car looks great. I like the other years 1991-1995 very much but not as much as the 1990 in looks. If you like the other front bumper then I am in agreement to sell your car and buy another later year model.

Ed, my thoughts exactly. For sure keeping the 90 front end but now I have been lucky enough to purchase some Jeal headers so next winter, since I am moving to Cincinnati in July, I will be upgrading to headers, 4.10 gears, and ported plenum. Might be upgrading the sound system too but we will see.

I already had the door moldings back to the wheel well. I didn't need the rear bumper moldings since the fiberglass rear cover I'm getting already has the '91 -> belt molded into it.
As others have said...it can be done...you'd need a new nose as well to pull it off.
I never liked the looks of the '84-'90 belt molding...I had an '86 for a few years and just couldn't get past how it looked "tacked on". The '91 and up looks like it belongs...
Mine is going to be a track car...with an LS, so I'm not exactly doing anything sacrilegious. It was a salvage car buried to the roof in water in a flash flood. I want it to match my '91...so the trim had to change.

Rather than post it twice...here is the thread in the Road Racing section...

Looking at doing an LS7 or maybe a Katech 427 LS3 for it...not sure yet. I have a LONG way to go before I get to that point.
I knew that if I bumped the horsepower in my '91 Z07 any more...then I was tire-limited for traction. I can BARELY fit the tires I have inside the rear wheel wells...and they spin with just 425 HP and 530 #/ft.
I hate the look of the fender flares...so the only other option was a ZR-1 chassis as my starting point. I can stuff 355's inside the rear fenders...and for race rubber that's a lot. A salvage/stripped car was the only option...I would hate to desecrate a good ZR-1 to do this build.
Who knows...once I get it done and have some disposable income I might look for a '91 white/grey ZR-1 so I have 3 that all look alike.
I realize someone has one for sale right now...I just can't swing this build AND another car payment at the same time.
