Body Kit

Body Kit
Several times on this forum it has been lamented that our cars (I have a '90, 62K mi. that I have owned for seven years) continue to depreciate in value, although not very fast right now. My feeling has been that they look almost exactly like the base C4 and very much like a Trans Am, in other words they don't look the part of the supercar that they are. The link below is to a fairly new company that is making a wide body kit for the C4. I have never been particularly fond of the Greenwood or other existing kits but these look pretty good.

Some questions for the forum: Has anyone done one of these kits? What are the ramifications of converting a perfectly good stock ZR-1 body. The value likely goes down but I get to drive and show a car that looks like what GM should have built and it still has the heart of the beast.

That looks horrible. Reminds me of the Ferrari Testarossa kit cars. That will bring the value down way more than an all stock one. I know when I have been shopping for a ZR-1 I just pass along when I see any body kits or wings on the cars. Just ruins it. My two cents.

Well you ask so be prepared....
If that's what floats your boat do it to a standard C4 and add an LS motor. I would not rune a ZR-1 with that kit. The ZR-1 all ready has a unique body.

The kit price is likely FOB, it's likely the price of the kit OR MORE for the installation/fitment if FITMENT is even possible and it's likely not painted yet either.
A $20K car + $15K easily + the shipping and painting, you end up with a project that likely won't bring much more than the original $20K price when completed. Judging from a quick glance this project would require a tire/wheel package also that's not even considered in the $$$'s I mentioned.

the zr1 already has a factory wide body. I would not ruin a zr1 with that. Maybe a regular c4 with a large stroker and nitrous with one of those kits... fun car.

Over on the Digital Corvette website their use to be some pictures of these cars in finished form. I would prefer a Callaway conversion.
I have pictures of some conversions done in Japan that look pretty clean though I can't remember where I printed them from.

This doesn't look like what GM should have built at all. IMO, GM should have built the GS90 for the ZR-1. Otherwise, I like the stealthy look of the stock body.

That kit is $7200 and yes, it's ugly. But if I was going to spend that kind of money on a body kit, I'd spend a couple grand more and get the callaway one. I also like the Shinoda kit, too bad it's unobtanium now.
Here is a pic of the version 1 Geiger kit and two others of some japan kits. I really like the front bumper on the silver one.

To those who posted a polite reply especially bdw18 and Zrxmax, Thank You. To the others, Well....
take a look at this link and tell me what other car(s) these pictures look like.

Also note the ASKING prices. This does not help the value of a ZR-1.
Also, if you did not already, scroll down the pictures in the body kit link to version three. I also like the blue car in bdw18's post. Whether you like the look of any of these cars or not is a matter of personal taste, I would not necessairly recommend them to everyone.
And, bottom line, it is probaly not a good idea to swap out a good stock ZR-1 for several reasons, but if one could find one that had a lot of body damage it might be fun.

I don't get the trans am reference to be honest. I have a 1985 trans am sitting beside my corvette in the yard now. Well that and a 1997 formula firebird. The 3 cars don't really look like each other that much and the neither of the f bodies look even close to my vette to me and a zr1 looks a bit different from my vette. Its like saying a Ferrari and a lambo look like my vette because both have pop up headlights. When in reality the vette is unique since it doesn't have pop up headlights. They roll over

Like it has been said before... haters are going to hate.
The silver C4 Vert you posted up was the car I was referring to in my last post here. IMHO that air management system looks to be the most generous in terms of
airflow to the radiator. The rear bumper facia on that silver C4 vert was also an visual improvement and looked like a airflow improvement over the stock facia behind the tires.
As a side note I used the "Big Mouth" air scoop deflector years ago and it actually worked. I could see the difference under extreme
desert conditions... usually 3 to 4 degrees cooler, not much, but also quicker cool down once moving.
The Toledo Pro hood use to be one of my favorites and now it looks a little bit juvenile as compared to the stock hood. I always thought the
hood should have some venting but their are probably some issues with that I am not aware of.
I am also a fan of the GS90 by Dick Gulstrand and got some good pictures on one on display in Palm Springs a few years ago.
The owner said it had been stored for years and he was at a point where he wanted to start driving it alot.

The silver converts facia is great looking and functional. The TP hood even the low rise makes for a mighty big blind spot. Esp. for us shorty's.
